The Kogod School of Business, American University, invites applications and nominations for an endowed chair in sustainability, which will be a tenured appointment in one or more of Kogod’s five departments (Accounting, Finance, IT, Management, and Marketing) with a specialization in sustainability as it pertains to business. Ideally, the candidate will be an associate or full professor.The position will begin in Fall 2024. This will be a joint appointment between Kogod School of Business and American University’s renowned School of Public Affairs. The candidate’s tenure home will be in the Kogod School of Business. An active research and teaching agenda that incorporates issues at the cusp of public policy and the private sector is welcomed.

The ideal candidate should have (1) an earned doctorate from a nationally-accredited institution in a business subfield such as management, marketing, finance, or a closely related discipline spanning business and public policy, such as economics, political science, or sociology, with an emphasis in the study of sustainability; (2) a strong research program in sustainability (special consideration for research and/or teaching interests in focus areas including public policy, diversity and/or analytics); (3) teaching excellence in sustainability and related courses at all levels, 4) collegiality, good citizenship, and commitment to serve the school, 5) evidence of institutional building such as in securing grants, and engagement with sustainability centers, and 6) evidence of working across boundaries, which will be key to a successful joint appointment.

We are especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service will contribute to the diversity and excellence of Kogod’s academic reputation and that of the School of Public Affairs.
