The mission of the Susan and Richard Kiphart Center for Global Health and Social Development (the Kiphart Center)is to advance research, training, and intervention to address global health and health equity around the world – to move beyond attention only to biomedical capacities and responses to focus more broadly on the social determinants of health and well-being and the ways in which social development policy and practice can address the challenges faced by, and promote the advancement and welfare of, vulnerable populations around the world. Drawing on the intellectual capacities and resources of the University of Chicago, the Kiphart Center will provide an institutional platform to build knowledge, train students, incubate innovative interventions, produce evidence, and, in collaboration with local stakeholders, shape policy and practice toward the health and well-being of marginalized populations globally. It will focus on specific social problems and policy and practice responses to promote the health, well-being, and social development of specific subpopulations (including children and youth, women, the elderly, migrants, those living with disabilities, and vulnerable minorities) and focused on a range of key issues (including health, environmental justice, education, poverty, urbanization, social inclusion, and civic and political engagement). The Kiphart Center is a housed at the University of Chicago Crown Family School for Social Work, Policy, and Practice. It is led by a Faculty Director and jointly overseen by the Deans of the Crown School and the Biological Sciences Division at the University.


Job Summary
 

Reporting to the Faculty Director, the Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Kiphart Center. The Executive Director will ensure the effective and efficient administration of the various educational, intervention, research, and dissemination programs and activities. In order to establish and expand the network of people and organizations partnering with the Kiphart Center, the Executive Director will also serve as a liaison to external organizations and represent the Center as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Works with minimal guidance in space, facilities, and equipment, including renovations, moves, maintenance, and ongoing facilities operations.

  • Coordinates communication and collaboration with other units at the University and with local stakeholders and partners.

  • Develops working relationships with organizations in host countries where students will complete field placements and internships and where other programmatic activities of the Center are underway.

  • Serves as a liaison to these organizations.

  • Identifies and builds relationships with prospective organizations that may serve as field placement sites or internship opportunities for students or as project sites for Center-supported activities.

  • Oversees marketing, communications, and external relations for the Center.

  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of alumni and organizational networks to advance the work of the Center.

  • In consultation and coordination with the Faculty Director, represents the Center internally and externally as needed.

  • Coordinates implementation of Center programs and activities.

  • Uses best practices to develop and execute organization's operational and overall strategic plan. Develops and implements relevant policies and procedures and ensures compliance.

  • Plans, develops, analyzes, and manages the Center budget, including developing multi-year budget forecasts. Contributes to the identification of funding sources and the preparation and management of grant and contract proposals. Ensures compliance with all University, federal, and international guidelines and regulations, as well as donor intentions as outlined in gift agreements. Develops financial reports and assists with seeking funding for grants.

  • Performs other related work as needed.

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
