Summary of Duties:

The Kinesiology Program on the Pullman campus is seeking applications for an assistant professor (career track/non-tenure track) position, with a 9-month appointment and possibility of summer employment. Applicants will be expected to teach four undergraduate courses each semester in two or more of the following content areas: strength and conditioning, fitness, exercise physiology, exercise prescription, or biomechanics and provide administrative support for our Strength and Conditioning minor. Applicants will also be expected to provide service to the undergraduate program in kinesiology, college, and university as appropriate.

Additional opportunities, commensurate with experience, training, degree, and interest may include student mentorship, and teaching courses in the graduate program in kinesiology. Finally, we seek applicants who can contribute to innovative teaching, department service, and service activities integrating kinesiology into campus and community entities as appropriate. These may include athletics, recreation, fitness facilities, and physical therapy or other health care clinics. The College of Education seeks applicants with a demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with individuals and groups with a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies in a global environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants must possess a master’s degree or equivalent degree in kinesiology or related field with 3+ years of relevant work experience by date of hire. Applicants with a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in kinesiology will also be considered.

  • By date of hire, applicants must possess a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Competitive applicants will have a strong record of teaching effectiveness. Teaching effectiveness is defined broadly, and can include formal settings (e.g., traditional classroom settings) as well as informal settings (e.g., personal training, group fitness, corporate wellness).

  • Additional knowledge which can support the graduate program is also desirable.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
