Job Summary

Note: This position is funded via grant funding from the Fresno-Madera K-16 Collaborative with an expected end date of 6/30/2026. 

Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, the Academic Program Coordinator will be responsible for the design, planning, and implementation of the new Raices (Roots) Program curriculum and program activities at partnering sites within Fresno, Madera and Tulare counties. The Academic Program Coordinator will have advanced knowledge in academic preparation and health pathway programs and experience working with a diverse student population. The Academic Program Coordinator will establish new relationships and maintain existing organizational relationships with K –12 institutions, health care partners, and higher education institutions. The Academic Program Coordinator will have a strong background in developing work-based learning opportunities (job shadowing, guest speaker coordination, clinical site placements, etc.) that enhance students’ learning in health and medicine. The Academic Program Coordinator will also develop programming to support pre-health students and be required to balance coordination duties with providing technical support for partner school site staff involved in expanding health pathway offerings. The Academic Program Coordinator duties will require advanced knowledge of implementing systems and procedures to track and report data, to meet programmatic outcomes in relation to grant objectives and metrics. This position is funded via grant funding from the Fresno-Madera K-16 Collaborative with an expected end date of 6/30/2026.

Department Description

UCSF Fresno is a regional campus of UCSF School of Medicine located in California’s Central Valley and the Department of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) is the administrative unit that oversees the Office of Health Career Pathways (OHCP). The OHCP was established to provide programs and services that lead to student academic success and exploration of research and health careers, as well as better coordinate and increase the success of existing health pathway programs at UCSF Fresno. UME provides services for 100 or more third year students from UCSF as well as 300 or more visiting 4th year medical students for clerkship rotations. UCSF Fresno has several accredited Residency & Fellowship programs under the auspices of Graduate Medical Education. The UCSF Fresno UME Office is responsible for implementation of all strategic directives for medical education at the Fresno campus and for ensuring that those who serve undergraduate student learners are actively engaged in the highest quality learning and teaching environment with a strong commitment to diversity and UCSF’s PRIDE values.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
• 5+ years’ experience in working with K-12 through college level student populations
• Comprehensive experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers
• Advanced knowledge of up-to-date information on K-12 and higher education policies and issues in the area of health pathway programming with ability to assess their impact on program strategies and disseminates information to school-site and district personnel
• Advanced knowledge of K-16 pathway program design and experience in implementation of work-based learning opportunities that meets the needs of learners that will ultimately lead to an increase the number of future health professionals in underserved communities
• Advanced knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population. Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status
• Advanced knowledge of K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid and scholarship requirements, and matriculation processes in regard to pursuing careers in health and medicine
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with all stakeholders such as; school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts
• Ability to develop outreach programs, and design effective materials
• Advanced knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements
• High-level skills in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing
• Advanced knowledge of youth and adolescent development theory, including issues facing low-income, first generation and underserved youth
• Ability to interpret policies and procedures for youth, parents, and school representatives
• Ability to prioritize work assignments and manage multiple competing projects with overlapping deadlines
• Strong project management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters Degree in Public Health, School Counseling, Education, or other related area of study
• Knowledge of K-16 health pathway programming design and implementation of new programming
• Pupil Personnel Services Credential
