Position Description

Harvard Medical School Information Systems seeks a Junior Information Technology [IT] Business Analyst professional skilled in systems and data analysis, gap analysis, requirements gathering, testing, project implementation, and production support.

This position will support the Information Systems team and will implement solutions to streamline operations. The position will participate in full software development cycle (SDLC) from project inception through ongoing production support, including data analysis, testing, and training.

The Junior IT Business Analyst will be responsible to: 

  • Learn new concepts, systems, and processes to support core facilities within Cores Management System
  • Develop and practice in the documentation of functional requirements gathering, user stories, process analysis, data analysis, gap analysis, design of new functionality, reports, and product testing under the direction of Product Owner
  • Perform user needs analysis, product evaluation, testing, implementation, and production support
  • Develop working knowledge of IT systems and understand customer business processes for production support
  • Develop good interpersonal skills and an ability to collaborate with stakeholders under the direction of Product Owner
  • Translate business needs into system requirements and scoping with help from Product Owner
  • Contribute to the building of complex data sets and conduct intricate data analysis based on business needs
  • Analyze and resolve data discrepencies before and after data uploads
  • Demonstrate and explain solution functionality and processes within Cores Management System
  • Assist in the development of test plans and test cases to perform testing with results
  • Troubleshoot problems and suggest improvements to current business workflows
  • Participate and understand best practices for Quality Assurance, regression, and User Acceptance Testing efforts
  • Participate in training documentation and learn to communicate difficult or sensitive information

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  •  
  • Willingness to take initiative and learn new skills
  • Solid knowledge of MS Excel and basic computer skills to work in a software
  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as MS Teams, Zoom, Slack, and JIRA
  • Excellent attention to detail is important and ability to do extensive data analysis
  • Excellent organizational skills to work on multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced
  • Work independently or collaboratively with minimal supervision
  • Communicate and work effectively in a remote environment
  • Strong verbal and visual communication during meetings
  • Knowledge of applications and processes related to cores management systems
  • Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor
  • Demonstrated research, problem solving, analytical, critical thinking, and relationship management skills

Certificates and Licenses

  • Completion of Harvard IT Academy specified foundational courses (or external equivalent) preferred

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an office setting

This position is based in Boston, but the work may be done fully or primarily remote. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT).
