Job Summary:

The Assistant Coordinator of the Jumpstart Program is a position on the campus of Temple University in the College of Education & Human Development.  Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students to work with preschool children in under-resourced communities through a language, literacy, and social-emotional rich curriculum. The primary responsibility of the Assistant Coordinator is to assist the Program Coordinator with the day-to-day operations of the Jumpstart program in order to ensure that Jumpstart Quality Standards and guidelines are achieved and that the program is meeting grant requirements. Using a work plan and program calendar provided by Jumpstart, the Assistant Coordinator will recruit, train, and manage college students serving as part-time AmeriCorps members to work with children from under-resourced neighborhoods. The Assistant Coordinator directly drives Jumpstart’s school success outcomes, in conjunction with key campus personnel and Jumpstart’s regional and national staff. As part of the Jumpstart network, the Assistant Coordinator is provided opportunities for professional development and growth, including but not limited to: new staff training, weekly check-ins, annual retreats, and field feedback. The Assistant Coordinator will report directly to the Jumpstart Program Coordinator.

Required Education & Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree in related field with 2 years of experience in early childhood settings; working with children (preK-4) in either a volunteer or paid capacity. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Required Skills & Abilities:

*Strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, administrators, students, and external stakeholders.
*Ability to adapt quickly and respond flexibly to changes.
*Strong technology/computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, database maintenance, and social media.
*Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility to take on new responsibilities as they arise, and ability to multi-task.
*Demonstrated success supervising and mentoring college students and adults.
*Awareness of and comfort with issues of diversity, specifically around race, class, and gender, as well as an ability to easily engage in and facilitate discussions about diversity without unduly focusing on them.
*Ability to travel to schools in Philadelphia for school site visits; some locations may not be accessible by public transportation.
*Ability to collaborate with multiple partners and navigate varying interests.
*Ability to work under pressure to meet goals and deadlines both independently and cooperatively.
*Ability to manage budgets.
*Significant evening and weekend work required at specific times during the program year.
*Ability to obtain background clearances (PA Child Abuse, FBI Criminal Background Check, and PA State Police) that would approve one to work with minors.

*This position requires a background check.
*This position requires Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service.
