JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State University Press seeks a dynamic and experienced Journals Production Coordinator to manage the production workflow for a portfolio of titles in the press’s expanding journals program.

Reporting to the Journals Production Manager, the Production Coordinator will manage the production processes from receipt of accepted manuscripts through the print and digital publication for designated titles. Duties include:

  • Coordinating production schedules

  • Ensuring an ongoing workflow of manuscripts and proofs among editors, copyeditors, compositors, and printers

  • Maintaining the journal’s database for annual journal records, schedules, contact details, and reporting

  • Assisting with new journal acquisitions as needed

  • Archiving

The Production Coordinator should have a solid grasp of basic copyright law, copyediting, understand online editorial workflows, and know how to prepare digital files for transfer to platforms for publication. The position works with external copy editors, project managers, and vendors for composition, printing, and online distribution. Together with the production manager, the production coordinator evaluates statistics to set print-runs, maintains production records (permissions, contact details, and production status), and works with student interns.

The successful candidate will possess a working knowledge of publishing workflows: editorial and peer-review, production, print and electronic publication. The position demands exceptional communication skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with vendors, editors, and editorial offices, including educators and administrators at universities around the world.

Familiarity with software programs for managing journals, such as Aries’s Editorial Manager® or VirtuSales’s Biblio, is a plus, but not required. This is an onsite position in University Park. The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$46,400.00 - $67,300.00
