Postdoctoral Fellow – Vaccines against Pediatric Respiratory Viruses

The RNA Viruses Section of the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) has strong basic and translational research programs for pediatric respiratory viruses (human respiratory syncytial virus, human metapneumovirus, and human parainfluenza viruses). Viral biology and host responses are studied invitro and in animal models (including rodents and nonhuman primates), in pediatric clinical trials of live-attenuated vaccines in collaboration with industry, and in adult controlled-infection studies.

The laboratory is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in molecular virology, live viral vaccine development using “reverse genetics,” and studying the host response to respiratory virus infection and vaccines. The laboratory provides a rich training environment in virology, immunology, and molecular and cellular biology, with access to cutting-edge scientific techniques (such as advanced flow cytometry, next-generation sequencing, and single-cell sequencing).

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D. obtained within the last 3 years. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in virology or immunology. Previous experience in molecular biology is essential. Candidates should have a publication record in peer-reviewed journals. The laboratory is looking for candidates with excellent writing and communication skills who are able to work both independently and with other members in a productive team.

To Apply

Applicants should send a short statement of research goals, curriculum vitae (CV), bibliography, and the names and contact information of three references to Dr. Ursula J. Buchholz ([email protected] ). Underrepresented minorities are especially encouraged to apply. NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community through its training and employment programs.
