CU Denver’s Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship (JJCE) is a subrecipient of a federal grant for the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s “Build to Scale” program. In partnership with the Denver Office of Economic Development (DEDO), Access Mode, Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network (BEN), and Colorado Thought Leaders Forum, JJCE will help serve technology entrepreneurs in the Denver metro area from underrepresented communities through educational pre-accelerator, mid-level, and post-accelerator opportunities. Specifically, the Jake Jabs Center will be running a Seminar Series, pitch competition track, and summer incubator program tailored to BIPOC founders and startups. 

Time for the position will be split between facilitating the year-round Seminar Series (80%), the grant track for THE CLIMB (10%), and the summer incubator program (10%). Key responsibilities include the day-to-day operation of grant program workshops, seminars, and events; following procurement processes; managing vendor contracts; scheduling and reserving facility spaces; grant reporting and compliance; coordinating all operational communications; and ensuring the overall success of these grant programs.  


Grant and Event Manager
What you will do:

Reporting and Compliance (40%)

  • Submits monthly status updates on spending and performance to JJCE team.
  • Maintains records specifying all sponsored project start, end, and renewal dates as well as all report submission deadlines.
  • Closely tracks approved budget to make informed decisions with the asst. director of operations on transferring funds into appropriate speed types based on timeline of work.
  • Tracks expenditures against budget and matching funds.
  • Submit spending requests to Asst. Director of Operations.
  • Develops spending and compliance reports.
  • Tracks and monitors deliverables and compliance issues.
  • Researches and reconciles discrepancies on accounts and initiates Journal Entries (JE) and Payroll Expense Transfers (PET) with asst. director of operations as needed.
  • Alerts faculty Principal Investigator (PI) of impending report deadlines and assists PI in preparing them.
  • Leads team in submitting Personal Effort Reporting (PER) forms to ensure completion and submission in a timely manner.
  • Prepares documents for closeout of sponsored projects.

  Event Programming (30%)

  • Serves as the key organizer and logistical coordinator for all grant-related events and programs, including responsibilities related to facility reservations, catering, day-of operations, and other event management, vendor contracts, as needed.
  • On-site lead for all seminars and grant event days.
  • Supports the Asst. Director of Operations with contracting for instructors and mentors.
  • Works directly with internal IT team and events team for event preparation and setup needs.
  • Oversees the planning and execution of the certificate ceremony to take place alongside the MS in ENTP degree graduation ceremony.

  Operational Communications (15%)

  • Drafts and sends stakeholders (such as instructors and mentors) and participant communication(s) regarding scheduling, deadlines, resources, completion requirements, and other announcements related to the grant programs.
  • Collaborates with the Asst. Director of Marketing & Communications to seek out and create publicity opportunities to help promote the grant programs.
  • Develops and maintains templates for use within JJCE (i.e., budget narratives, subcontract documents, standard contracts, etc.).
  • Serves as primary liaison for the JJCE with the Office of Grants and Contracts (OGC).

  Misc. (5%)

  • Assists in identifying new grants and grant renewal opportunities.
  • Works with PI and grant staff to close out the award properly and in a timely manner.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $65,000-70,000.  

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

 
Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in business, business administration, communication, finance, accounting, or a related field from an accredited institution
  • Three (3) years of professional-level experience in areas related to research, academic, administrative, managerial and/or student services functions in a university setting demonstrating increasing levels of independence and leadership.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience with sponsored projects involving a wide variety of sponsors including federal agencies, non-profit foundations, state and local government.
  • Completion of CU Denver’s Office of Grants and Contracts intensive grants management training (or similar) that includes pre-aw·      ard, post-award, Uniform Guidance, budgeting, and compliance. 
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Finance Research Administrator (CFRA) certificate.
  • Experience with two or more of the following: PeopleSoft, Cognos, CU System’s MFin, Marketplace, CU Denver’s EMS.
  • Experience planning, organizing, and implementing institutional and public events.
