Job Summary
Working under the supervision of Japan Digital Scholarship Librarian (JDSL) of the Japan Digital Research Center library (JDRC), the Japan Digital Projects Coordinator assists to implement the initiatives and activities of the JDRC and is responsible in coordinating its day-to-day operations. The Japan Digital Projects Coordinator will play a critical role in facilitating the development and maintenance of digital materials, and preservation of analog-to-digital and born-digital assets in coordination with other libraries across campus.
Position Description
The Japan Digital Projects Coordinator will be expected to:
• Work with the Japan Digital Scholarship Librarian (JDSL) to liaise with faculty, students, and scholars in the use of digital tools and methods in research and learning through consultations, project support, curricular engagement, and workshops and training programs;
• Assist the JDSL to evaluate, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain ongoing faculty-led digital scholarship projects. The JDRC portfolio includes digital projects involving constitutional revision, March 11 triple disasters, urban history, data analytics, and moving images and films to name a few;
• Coordinate activities with external content developers. Assist in creating standard digital scholarship practices with units across the university and larger Japanese Studies community;
• Working with the JDSL, facilitate the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and strategies related to long-term access and management of digital resources;
• Independently pursue knowledge of current and emerging digital library resources and opportunities to expand digital scholarship on Japan.
Basic Qualifications
• BA, preferably in East Asia/Japan area studies and/or information technology or library/computer science.
• Three or more years working in a library or academic/research setting. Education can be considered as part of relevant work experience.
• Demonstrated experience working with digital projects, preferably in a library or academic/research setting.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
• Demonstrated familiarity with digital resources in Japanese Studies.
• Demonstrated experience working with digital/web projects, data analytics, social media, and/or other related digital technologies and tools;
• Demonstrated proficiency in at least one of the following areas: data visualization, text analysis, network analysis, mapping, computational research platforms and workflows.
Physical Requirements
Sit and perform desk-based computer tasks. Frequent twist/bend/stoop/squat to connect cables; may be asked to move equipment and lift objects no more than 20 pounds.
Working Conditions
Digital research center in a library. Local travel to participate in training and instructional workshops. Possible international travel with JDSL for instructional workshop and conferences.

Additional Information
Established in 2017 the mission of the Japan Digital Resources Center (JDRC) is to provide faculty, students, and scholars with information and access to expanding digital resources and materials. Supported by the Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies, the JDRC complements the other Japan-related holdings of other libraries on campus and works in collaboration with other units across the university and beyond to promote digital research collections and projects. A successful candidate will have demonstrated affinity for educational technologies and digital scholarship and will have experience of its range of application to research, teaching, and instructional design.
