General Information
In keeping with its mission to produce educated and enlightened citizens, JMU is proud to announce recruitment for the 2024-2025 Presidential Engagement Fellows Program. Nine outstanding recent graduates will have the opportunity to experience a transformational year of public service. Fellowships are a 10-month commitment. Fellows are placed within JMU agencies where they experience life within a university administrative office and contribute to projects designed to advance their capacity for engaged learning, community engagement or civic engagement. Fellows receive living and housing stipends.

Duties and Responsibilities
JMU Engagement Fellows:
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the James Madison University Mission, Vision and Values including a sense of responsibility and obligation within the community and unit they serve.
  • Approach complex problems through the practice of interpersonal skills that promote teamwork and acceptance of diversity of thought regarding goals and priorities.
  • Create and maintain meaningful and productive connections between the university and community and serve as an active member of a thriving cohort.
  • Explore personal strengths and improve upon weaknesses, with particular emphasis on developing career options and exploring life plan goals through experiential learning.
  • Gain a working understanding of organizational communication, interconnectedness and problem solving within a community.
Qualifications
Engagement fellows must be a recent graduate of a JMU bachelors or masters program searching for a service year position.
Condition(s) of Employment
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

Notice of Availability – Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
