IT Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Associate Director of IT, the IT Technician will install, maintain and repair computers, peripherals and networks. The Technician will be the one to ensure that adequate IT infrastructure is in place and is used to its maximum capabilities. The goal is to install and maintain high quality networks and computer systems. The successful candidate will be service focused and possess excellent customer service

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following are primary duties:

  • Installing, operating, maintaining, repairing and modifying end user equipment such as PCs, laptops, phones, monitors. and printers
  • Troubleshooting and resolving end users' technical issues related to hardware and software
  • Training new employees on the correct and acceptable usage of the university's technology
  • Managing PC image creation and deployment
  • Maintains IT asset inventory and manages equipment life cycle
  • Monitors, responds to and documents Help Desk calls and provides coverage for Help Desk services
  • Manage security options and software in computers and networks to maintain privacy and protection from attacks
  • Perform patching and regular upgrades to ensure systems remain updated.  Troubleshoot system failures or bugs and provide solutions to restore functionality

           Arrange maintenance sessions to discover and mend inefficiencies

  • Keep records of repairs and fixes for future reference
  • Maintain and develop documentation for the IT department relative to hardware and software

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience as computer technician or similar role
  • Experience supporting an IT Help Desk
  • Thorough knowledge of computer systems and IT components
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Active Directory and Microsoft Office 365
  • Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
  • Experience with Desktop Central or similar tools
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills  Excellent communication abilities
  • Must be a team player
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, students and vendors
  • Ability to keep thorough documentation
  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, engineering or relevant field preferred
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. CompTIA A+l SecuritY+, Network+, Microsoft) will be an advantage

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

There are limited physical demands; however, this position requires sitting occasionally for extended periods of time, and repetitive motions for tasks such as operating a computer mouse and keyboard, and hearing and speaking on the telephone. The candidate must be able to pull, bend, grasp, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs. with or without accommodation.
