Job Summary

The IT Systems Engineer is a fully competent and productive professional providing application and operating system administration, support, technical coordination and design for the implementation and maintenance of various enterprise level IT services at Purdue. These services include the business ERP and other 3rd party information systems at the university. These applications are generally cloud based with integrations back to the business ERP.  This position must proactively monitor the applications, recognize issues and provide solutions that prevent or minimize customer impact. These issues can be moderately complex and may require working with other team members to come up with innovative solutions such as design and development of scripts, tools and utilities to ensure operational credibility. This position may also occasionally assist the database administrators in recognizing application and performance issues. The IT Systems Engineer will frequently be assigned to projects that provide design recommendations, technical coordination and support for the architecture, implementation, integration, and maintenance of new or upgraded products. This requires coordination and communication with developers, customers, 3rd party vendors and other IT areas to ensure needs are met.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in in computer technology, computer science, computer engineering, information technology, business or related fields  
  • At least two (2) to three (3) years of experience in designing and developing business solutions
  • In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience

 

Preferred:

  • SAP and/or other ERP system administration experience 


Skills Needed:

  • Knowledge of application functionality, operating systems, and foundational infrastructure architecture   
  • Ability to:
    • administer enterprise level services including version control systems, relational databases, web servers, or other complex applications
    • work effectively with a diverse group of constituents (e.g. subject-matter experts, vendors, customers etc.) of a wide variety of applications and infrastructure to identify and resolve issues
    • work independently and as a part of a team
    • effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences at various levels within the organization, as well as across the ITAP organization 
    • accept and instigate change 
    • accept project priorities and prioritize personal work tasks  
    • define business requirements and implement business process redesign  
  • Working knowledge of a module, module capabilities, or knowledge of system design and analysis practices
  • Knowledge or experience in business process improvement methodologies 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and documentation skills
  • Personal ‎competencies in integrity, flexibility/adaptability, stress management, judgment/problem ‎solving and drive for results

 

Preferred:

  • Ability to troubleshoot beyond the application environment and into related operating systems and database areas
