The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Information Technology (CLAS - IT) department provides the technology infrastructure, technical assistance, and expertise needed to meet the unique technology needs of CLAS and its 22 departments and programs. CLAS - IT is instrumental in enabling the college to advance the strategic priorities of CLAS and CU Denver through innovative technology solutions and services provided to CLAS students, faculty, and staff. 

The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for managing, maintaining, and improving upon the IT infrastructure for the college. They will also act as the second tier of technical escalation for the CLAS - IT Support Desk, assisting the student team with more complex technical issues that arise. This position will bring a breadth of technical knowledge to the team, through understanding the CLAS technological ecosystem and how different systems integrate with one another to provide IT services to the college. 

The IT Systems Administrator will conduct a complete discovery and documentation of existing infrastructure, configurations and use cases, and will identify opportunities to implement best practices, enforce cybersecurity principles, increase efficiency through automation, and improve overall services provided by IT infrastructure. The hire candidate for this position is expected to thrive in process improvement, assisting the IT Operations Manager with building and designing IT solutions, and should take pride in providing top tier customer support.


IT Systems Administrator
What you will do:

Systems Administration

  • Conduct a full discovery, and document, all existing IT infrastructure, configurations, and use cases, assist in identifying opportunities to implement best practices, improve cybersecurity posture, and increase efficiency through automation.
  • Under the direction of the IT Operations Manager, assist with redesigning and developing server infrastructure as identified by the full discovery to implement organizational IT practices, cybersecurity configurations, and efficient management practices.
  • Server administration, including implementation and installation, virtualization, file system configuration, hardware maintenance, storage management, software licensing, regular system updates, securing and hardening, and proactive monitoring and maintenance.
  • Administer a heavily mixed computing environment, including Windows, Mac, and multiple flavors of Linux in highly customized use cases.
  • Ensure high availability and acceptable levels of performance for CLAS server and network resources.
  • Manage and maintain user accounts, groups, and access rights to network resources.
  • Provide basic support for High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments utilized for teaching and research computing within CLAS departments, including hardware replacements and some limited software support.
  • Administer data center network environments including layer 1 connectivity, InfiniBand, subnet design, and virtualization.
  • Secure critical server and network infrastructure and ensure proper maintenance and patch management to protect CLAS assets.
  • Install, configure, repair, manage, and replace server and storage hardware in data center environments.
  • Develop simple scripts to simplify management of computing infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with the central Office of IT for hosted virtual services, storage, network configuration and support, and enterprise services such as DNS, Active Directory, and more.
  • Document procedures, designs, configurations, topologies, and problem resolutions for server and network infrastructure.

Support Desk

  • Act as of the second tier of escalation for the Support Desk’s student employees, providing technical assistance for CLAS faculty/staff/students via a multitude of methods, including in-person and remote.
  • Develop, maintain, update, and deploy cloned images for computing labs on a semiannual basis.
  • Develop simple scripts for common support processes such as cloning, software installation, driver installation, print mapping, file share mapping, and more.
  • Assist the IT Operations Manager with developing zero-touch deployment solutions for workstations, desktops, laptops, and mobile devices.
  • Administer a mixed environment of Windows, Linux, and Mac systems, including hardware repairs and upgrades, operating system configuration, system software updates, software installation, procedure automation, and cloning.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $64,819 - $71,642.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

 
Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a directly related field from an accredited institution
  • One (1) year of professional experience managing or supporting enterprise IT environments.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.


Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Terminal Degree in relevant field or technical certificates such as:
    • CompTIA: A+, Network+, Security+, Server+, Linux+
    • Cisco: CCST, CCNA
    • Microsoft: Azure Fundamentals, Windows Server
