Job Description Summary

The IT Systems Administrator will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining the University’s IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing servers, storage, and network devices, as well as experience with virtualization technologies. The IT Systems Administrator will work closely with other members of the IT team to ensure that the University’s IT infrastructure is reliable, secure, and scalable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, storage, and network devices.

  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues.

  • Develop documentation for common recurring items.

  • Manage virtualization technologies.

  • Collaborate with other members of the IT team to ensure that the University’s IT infrastructure is reliable, secure, and scalable.

  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in IT.

  • Manage Active Directory and Entra ID, including structure, use, groups/accounts, sync processes and settings, and cleanup work.

  • Work with Windows 11 and greater OS, Windows server 2019/2022, Linux/Redhat OS, and perform system patching work for all systems as needed.

  • Use PowerShell language and development to understand account provisioning processes and nuances, processes on license assignment in Azure/Office 365, DL/Class List automations and corrections, build on fly scripts for sometimes complex solutions, and understand Run Books and scripts (Azure).

  • Work with Service-Now, Microsoft Office 365, and Azure.

  • Work with HCI, including learning Hyper-V Manager/Failover Manager, learning how to migrate storage drive/build from images, and learning support for patching and updating.

  • Work with Imaging, including classrooms/podiums, Deepfreeze knowledge, AVD deployment and scaling, and trading room support.

  • Provide on-call support as needed.
     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • 1-3 years of related work experience.

  • Experience with server, storage, and network device management.

  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.

  • Familiarity with networking concepts and protocols.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to recent technologies and processes.

  • Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.

  • Proficient in PowerShell scripting.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Intune device management, Microsoft antivirus solutions, and WSUS.

  • Experience with HCI, including Hyper-V Manager/Failover Manager and migrating storage drive/build from images.

  • Experience with Service-Now, Microsoft Office 365, and Azure.

  • Experience with imaging work, including classrooms/podiums, Deepfreeze knowledge, AVD deployment and scaling, and trading room support.


Work Environment:

  • Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work.

  • Ability to travel within and outside of campus for meetings and other work-related events, travel may occur outside of normal business hours.

  • Work Schedule: 8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday. This position may be eligible for up to 2 days remote work. Applicants must be within driving distance of the Waltham, MA campus.

  • Lifting up to 25 pounds. Sitting for extended periods of time on the phone and standing at the walk-up counter or carrying equipment to faculty and staff offices on campus.

  • Required to be available for occasional after-hours support for colleagues and clients (outside of standard work hours) for resolution and troubleshooting IT issues. At times, the use of personal cell phones for work will be required.
