Purpose

We are seeking an IT Support and Operations Specialist to join our team at The University of Texas at Austin Department of Computer Science. In this dynamic role, you will be the front-line support for all IT-related queries, including Windows, Mac, and Linux systems, as well as departmental and university services. Your responsibilities will also include event support, office onboarding/offboarding, equipment management, and handling emergency facilities issues. Our department values a collaborative atmosphere where team members support each other and contribute to various aspects of our operations.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for all departmental IT help requests, providing guidance and support across a range of issues and platforms (Linux, Windows, Mac).

  • Support departmental and university events by setting up and managing AV equipment, furniture, and providing necessary training and assistance.

  • Engage in physical tasks such as office onboarding/offboarding, equipment delivery, furniture moving, and maintenance of large machines.

  • Play an active role in team-based tasks including lab cleaning, handling emergency facilities issues, and other operational needs.

  • Provide specialized level-two support for Windows OS and hardware, as well as general A/V technology.

  • Interact professionally with all levels of faculty, staff, and students, providing clear explanations and solutions.

  • Collaborate effectively with team members on various projects and departmental initiatives.

  • Stay current with the latest technology trends and continually develop new technical skills.

  • Other related duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in an IT support role, with a broad understanding of various operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux).

  • Ability to handle physical tasks involved in event setup, equipment management, and facilities maintenance.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a demonstrated ability to interact professionally across all levels.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

  • Commitment to professional growth and learning new technologies.

  • Proven track record of excellent attendance and punctuality.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.

  • Certifications such as Apple Certified, Microsoft Windows and Office Certified, A+ Certified.

  • Experience in a higher education IT support setting.

  • Familiarity with university-level desktop security requirements and IT resources.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with tight deadlines.


Salary Range

$60,000+ depending on qualifications


Working Conditions

  • This role requires a combination of desk-based and active, physical work, including moving equipment and furniture, and responding to operational needs across campus.

  • Standard office environment with repetitive use of a keyboard.

  • Walking and standing for extended periods of time.

  • Use of personal mobile device.

  • May require climbing stairs and ladders.

  • Lifting and moving furniture and equipment up to 100 lbs.

  • Availability for occasional nighttime and weekend work.

  • Capability to work on multiple projects under pressure of deadlines.
