Position Summary
The IT Support Analyst will serve within the College of Sciences Technology Services. The Analyst will be responsible for endpoint management support (desktops, laptops, mobile devices, etc.) along with support for the cyberinfrastructure (compute, server, storage, and networking) environments, both on-premises and in the cloud, serving instructional, operational, and research projects/programs. This position will also assist in defining and ensuring compliance with IT security rules and regulations through implementation of controls and reporting for security frameworks (NIST, PCI-DSS, HIPAA and CMMC) as required by granting agencies. Participation in system, regional, and national research computing communities will also be encouraged.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
The purpose of the Information Technology (IT) Division is to provide the technology that empowers SDSU's success. The IT Division includes several departments and areas with the shared mission to leverage people and technology to support SDSU's commitment to innovative teaching, research, and service. The IT Division is led by the Chief Information Officer, who is ultimately responsible for developing the long-term infrastructure, services, and strategy necessary to support the University's mission of learning, discovery, and engagement. The IT Division has the stewardship responsibility for core IT assets on campus and the obligation to provide the services, training, and community building necessary to realize the benefits of those investments across the San Diego State University community. The IT Division is made up of 184 staff and 28 administrators.
Sciences Technology Services (STS), a department of IT Services and Support, manages IT infrastructure supporting instruction, operations, and research at the College of Sciences (COS). The STS staff provide endpoint support, server management, IT consultation, quotes, and security management for systems across the college and collaborate with IT teams/groups throughout the SDSU community.

Education and Experience
To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in operating systems programs, maintenance, and systems administration features is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent technical training and/or experience. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Operating Systems Analyst include a working knowledge of the assigned computer operating systems, systems analysis, and systems-level programming analysis techniques.
Key Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in Information Technology
  • Bachelor's degree Computer Science or related field OR equivalent experience in lieu of bachelor's degree (4 years)
  • Experience with server management and administration (Linux and Windows)
  • Experience with endpoint management systems such as Jamf, Entra ID/Azure AD, etc.
  • Knowledge of IT Security compliance
  • Knowledge of networking systems and configuration including VLAN, VPN, Port Management, Firewalls
  • Experience working with IT Security Tools such as CIS-CAT, Qualys, etc.
  • Experience with configuring, troubleshooting, and securing endpoint systems (PC, Apple, and Linux)

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $7,084 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,678 - $11,547 per month.
