Job Description
Scope of Position: The Marketing and Strategic Communications Department is responsible for the overall image management and all internal and external communications and marketing activities for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and associated departments, clinics and research facilities. The Content team in the department is responsible for the planning, direction and production of content for numerous web sites and digital communication channels, advertising, printed materials, environmental elements, speeches, presentations and video for the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and its various business and academic units. Through these media, Content staff must effectively convey the vision, expertise, culture, services, successes and progress of the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, its business units, staff and leaders to key constituents and in accordance with Medical Center and business unit communication plans.
Position Summary: The Senior Content Specialist for the Content team serves as a lead writer for content produced at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. The Senior Content Specialist plans, coordinates, writes and produces national reputation advertising content, annual reports, executive communications (both internal and external), feature articles for our web and digital properties, blogs, print materials, and content for digital, interactive, social and other emerging communication technologies to advance the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center brand and reputation. The Senior Content Specialist is at heart a writer and will bring a journalistic curiosity to all their work to bring innovative thinking to our storytelling. They will be adept at managing multiple writing and editing projects on a daily basis. The Senior Content Specialist interacts constantly with appropriate Medical Center leaders and serves as a point person for Marketing and Strategic Communications colleagues for producing, editing and proofreading content for their client departments and projects. Superior writing, interviewing and editing abilities are required for this position, as well as the ability to maintain brand voice, tone and quality standards. This position may be assigned to lead or participate in various ad hoc committees and work teams involving other Medical Center faculty and staff, department team members, graphic designers, photographers, videographers, web developers and user-experience designers both in-house and freelance.
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor's Level Degree
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or related communications field required. Minimum of five years of proven experience in communications, journalism or related field required. Must have excellent writing, interviewing and editing skills. Strong knowledge of content strategy, digital and social storytelling preferred. Experience in health care writing and content optimization knowledge is a plus.
