Overview:

The Neutron Systems Engineering and Support (NSES) Group in the Research Computing Support Division (RCSD) in the Information Technology Services Directorate (ITSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is hiring an IT Project Manager!

 

What you will be doing:

NSES provides technical expertise and computing support to the Neutron Science Directorates (NScD) which operates the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), and the Neutron Upgrades Project Office (NUPO). The IT Project Manager will lead the development of a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) project from pilot with NUPO and NScD as the primary stakeholders to completion with additional directorates within ORNL. The ideal candidate will have the skillset in the project life cycle management by planning, budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating efforts across directorates and across functional teams.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive project plans outlining scope, timelines, resources, and milestones.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors, stakeholders, and project sponsors.
  • Lead and motivate cross-functional and cross-directorate project teams.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedule, and deliverables in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization.
  • Execute and oversee the PLM project from pilot to completion ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards and provide status updates to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Start with the PLM pilot project by migrating and cleaning up legacy data, improving workflows, and allowing NScD and STS to improve processes that align with the Digital Thread initiative.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop plans and strategies to meet program and project needs.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field of study and 5 years of proven experience is required for consideration. An overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in Project Engineering/Project Management.
  • Experience with CAD software applications and project management methodologies, tools, and techniques, and stay updated on industry trends and advancements.
  • Candidate must be a proficient technical writer, have strong interpersonal skills, and be capable of working independently on complex tasks in support of team members.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration, or a related field of study.
  • Effective documentation and presentation skills.
  • Experience in creating dashboards to highlight the portfolio of project work using Microsoft Power BI.
