What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the IT Project Manager 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

This posting is for an IT Project Manager 1/2 in the Information Technology Project Management (ITPM) Group in the Service Innovation Division, which is part of the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Business Management (ALDBUS). The SI-ITPM group provides IT project and program management—including Agile methodologies—to ensure IT projects achieve success and deliver expected outcomes within scope, schedule, and budget.

This position will serve as a Project Manager for one or more software applications development projects. We’re looking for someone with skills and knowledge in Project Management and/or Agile frameworks.

IT Project Manager 1 Responsibilities($71,000 to 112,700)

This position will work with a project team and may work under higher-level project managers to apply their training, education and experience to LANL IT solutions. The IT Project Manager 1 facilitates the timely completion of multi-disciplinary information technology (IT) projects of low to moderate levels of complexity and scope. They use specific knowledge about Project Management and Agile to learn and lead other agile-experienced teams to achieve IT objectives. Manages timelines and resolves project impediments. Understands and adheres to all Laboratory and regulatory guidance and governance specific to the project work. Ensures adherence to quality standards and reviews project deliverables. Maintains relationships with customers and stakeholders to understand and be responsive to their issues or concerns. Works closely with the project team and Information & Technology (I&T) staff regarding delivery of specific products and projects.

IT Project Manager 2 Responsibilities($85,400 - $139,600)

In addition to the responsibilities listed for the level 1, an IT Project Manager 2 requires the experience and the skill to manage and lead multiple project initiatives. They will be responsible for leading the overall vision and execution of a project. An IT Project Manager 2 will often act as a Scrum Master, increasing the Agile skills of teams and assisting in the implementation of various Agile frameworks. The IT Project Manager 2 facilitates the timely completion of multi-discipline information technology (IT) projects of low to moderate levels of complexity and scope.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Excellent servant leadership skills, problem solving, conflict-resolution, and organizational skills.

  • Some knowledge of software development methodologies, tools and processes.

  • Familiarity with or some training in Agile best practices and frameworks.

  • Knowledge of Project Management tools for scheduling, project reporting and other related office tools (e.g. Microsoft Project, Visio, Microsoft Office, Jira, Confluence, etc.)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to plan, lead, organize and monitor team efforts to completion.

  • Ability to develop and nurture effective customer and stakeholder relationships.

Additional Job Requirements for IT Project Manager/Scrum Master 2:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requ i res:

  • Agile Project Management skills of at least 1 year.

  • Knowledge of IT environments and application development methodologies.

  • Ability to direct functional or technical resources to fulfill project scope.

Education and Experience :

IT Project Manager/ Scrum Master 1: requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 2 years of experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

IT Project Manager/ Scrum Master 2: requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 4 years of experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Ability to obtain a DOE clearance, which typically includes being 18 years of age or over and a US Citizen.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a government or national laboratory environment.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Scrum master certifications (CSPO, CSM, or equivalent)

  • Knowledge of or skills with work package tools.

  • DOE Q Clearance

This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. The Telework Pilot is in effect from Oct. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021, but may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2-Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
