Salary Information Salary is dependent on experience with a minimum of $50.837.00.
Department Summary
As the most-used service on campus and an essential component of education and research at the University of North Texas, the Libraries offer access to more than 6 million items (print and digital) along with expert personnel to assist patrons in achieving their academic and scholarly goals. We provide innovative programs and support to enhance the relationship between teaching and learning at the University of North Texas.
A wide range of student- and faculty-centered services is the cornerstone of the Libraries’ integral role in the University of North Texas community. The Digital Libraries Division supports the UNT Libraries with guidance, software development, digital preservation, and other digital services. Through collaborative efforts such as The Portal to Texas History and the UNT Digital Library we freely provide digital content to a worldwide audience. Our software development team builds these products with open source components and open, standards-based protocols and formats.

Position Overview
Working with Python, the Django web framework, and other open source components, develops, maintains, and tests Digital Libraries applications and infrastructure. Provides programming support for the development of digital library initiatives, including The Portal to Texas History and the UNT Digital Library . Working collaboratively with other programmers and technologists, provides documentation and technical support, and assists with planning and implementing digital projects in the UNT Libraries.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree with coursework in computing or information systems and one year of related computing or programming work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of the methods and equipment used in electronic data processing.
• Skill in writing programs for computer applications.
• Ability to analyze problems and develop solutions.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
  • Demonstrated desire to learn new tool sets and programming languages
  • Proficiency in Python or comparable programming language
  • Working knowledge of version control systems
  • Working knowledge of Linux, Apache, MySQL
  • Working knowledge of open source tools and environments

Job Duties


o
Contribute to development of the in-house built digital archiving system and Django project named Coda , adding new features and fixing bugs as assigned.
o
Provide programming support for the in-house built metadata editing system named Aubrey Edit.
o
Act as developer and maintainer of existing Django applications hosted by the division, including aubrey andapplications present on the digital2.library.unt.edu server.
o
Provide documentation within code and for program/project usage/deployment.
o
Interact with the Libraries’ technology and computing department on matters related to the maintenance of the unit’s software and hardware.
o
Adhere to the unit’s version control practices for software development and deployment.
o
Adhere to the unit’s testing practices for software and interfaces.
o
Maintain good working relationships with members of the Digital Libraries Division, members of other Libraries divisions, faculty, students, staff, and external business contacts.
