The Information Technology Professional II is responsible for: implementation and management of the department s TCP/IP network; system administration activities including, but not limited to, installation, upgrades, maintenance, system and change management and security monitoring; providing IT customer service and related technical training; and project and application development including end-user documentation. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three years of experience in systems administration, service delivery, or hardware/software installation and maintenance

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment as well as perform as an individual contributor
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills
  • Requires ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Five (5) years as system analyst with variety of operating systems
  • Working experience in Linux, Windows, Macintosh and Cisco environments
  • Experience in working cooperatively with others to deliver high quality computing and networking services
  • Experience with installation and maintenance of high performance servers and high performance computing
  • Experience with various open source software. Experience in securing TCP/IP network

Responsibilities:

  • System Administration and Network Services: Manages the deployment, maintenance, upgrade, and support of system servers and critical core services including, but not limited to: web, email, database, directory, backup and recovery and network services, as well as other non-critical system infrastructure services. Designs, implements, and controls network infrastructure. Provides technical and system security compliance oversight and training assuring enterprise integrity of data, web presence, and directory store. Resolves system configuration performance issues. Performs analysis, infrastructure architectural design, and system configuration in both a controlled test and production environment. Serves as a resource for internal and external customers.

  • Support Services: Provides technical leadership and management for the department s computing help desk. Trains, mentors and develops IT helpdesk employees. Monitors IT helpdesk service requests to ensure quality control. Coordinates development and implementation of computing support standards. Assists with strategic planning, user support services and other support activities such as the department s communication initiatives, distance learning initiatives and user training.

  • Maintenance Services: Discovers, investigates, and brings resolution to system configuration, performance, and operational issues. Develops and maintains system, procedural, and change management documentation. Performs analysis, review, and testing of system procedures as documented; refines and improves procedures as applicable. Provides reports and summaries to management and/or end users including project status reports, problem reports, changes and progress summaries.

  • Professional Development and Consultation: Maintains relative professional development activities including emerging technology initiatives. Consults with and assist other computing personnel, developers, vendors and/or manufactures representatives in both technology advancement and issue resolution. Consults with customers to set mutually acceptable timelines and deliverables.

  • Applications: Assists with department s web based application development, implementation, testing, and maintenance. Provides technical guidance and/or training to application users ensuring the success of an application. Makes recommendations based on the evaluation of software products and programming languages for their applicability to the system and/or project. Researches new technologies and systematically incorporate such technology when both beneficial and appropriate. Aids in the advancement of the department s mission by identifying areas that could benefit from the development of integrated software solutions. Utilizes standard software engineering practices assuring applicable application life-cycle management.

  • Database Management: Plans, organizes and controls activities related to database systems. Responsible for database programming, development, implementation, testing, and maintenance including project documentation. Researches new technologies and systematically incorporates such technology when both beneficial and appropriate. Reviews and verifies fulfillment of stakeholder requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.
