What We Want

The IT Professional I, under general direction, meets the IT needs of a unit where multifaceted expertise is required. This role performs in specialty areas of systems, services, and/or applications. Additionally, this position performs unit-level support in multiple technical fields. This position may require you to life and/or move medium weight objects.

What you need to know:

Salary: Commensurate on selected candidate's experience.

Schedule: May be required to provide on-call support on nights and weekends as needed. This position is in the VetMed building, the employee may be in contact with animals.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Four months (1 semester) of student worker and/or customer service experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Must be able to multi-task and work in a collaborative team environment. 

  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills. 

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • Degree in information technology or related field.

  • Three years of related experience in IT Desktop Support and Customer service experience.

Preferred Certifications:

  • ITIL Foundations and/or PMP

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Cross-disciplined IT skills, advanced IT skills, report writing skills, intermediate troubleshooting, client relations, ingenuity, formulating and contributing ideas, and knowledge of ITIL.

  • Experience configuring, administering, and/or trouble shooting microcomputers, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office suite of products.  


  • Resolution of Technical Problems: Confers with other personnel in resolving problems involving procedural and technical matters. Provides assistance in resolving hardware and software problems with vendor technical support. Research problems and recommend solutions. 

  • Workstation/Software Support: Installs, upgrades, and configures workstations and software. 

  • Data Security: Ensures security of customer data and applications in all phases of production. 

  • Compliance: Ensures that work is accurate and in compliance with departmental or project quality standards. Ensures compliance with applicable policies, rules, and procedures. 

  • Estimates and Reports: Provides resource estimates and progress reports. 

  • Common Duties: Participates on committees to develop technical standards and direction. Meet with customers and technical staff to determine information technology needs and requirements. Provides input for the planning and budget process. 

  • Professional Development: Participates in training and professional development sessions. Performs other duties as assigned.
