Job Summary

Applies advanced technical project management frameworks and methods and campus, medical center, or Office of the President objectives to resolve highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Determines methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to obtain results. Manages projects of broad and diverse scope, size, impact, budget, and/or project team size, with considerable impact on the organization.


Department Description

UCSF is a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care. It is the only campus in the 10-campus UC system dedicated exclusively to the health sciences. UCSF is technologically and organizationally complex, with both centralized and departmental IT units providing support for enterprise and specialized services. UCSF IT provides infrastructure, network, security, analytics, integration, and application support services, and is essential to the organization’s ability to support growth, mitigate security risk, and manage, store and share sensitive information.

To address the root causes of our security vulnerabilities, UCSF must redesign its operating model for managing IT solutions and services. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Minimum of 5+ years of related experience
  • Working knowledge of technology-related initiatives and an understanding of the impact to the organization of such initiatives
  • Requires ability to assess campus or health needs for information technology products and design services to meet those needs based on the IT Operating Model (ITOM) principles
  • Requires basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts
  • Demonstrated capacity to anticipate obstacles and plan for contingencies
  • Demonstrated attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to determine relevance and prioritize tasks
  • Effective skill at tracking effort and project progress. Demonstrated highly advanced organization and project management skills. Demonstrated strong conceptual and planning skills to analyze projects of broad and diverse scope. Understands the cost impact of projects, project tracking tools and metrics
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of an organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of all aspects of computing and communications including hardware infrastructure, networking, software, operations, and disaster recovery.
  • Professional certification (PMI)
