Job Description:

The Department of Biology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences currently seeks an IT Generalist II. This position will configure and install networked computers and ensure the proper operation of computer hardware and software. This role involves front-line desktop support, assisting faculty and staff with a variety of operating systems including Windows, Mac OS-X, and Linux. The IT Generalist II advises on technology purchases, directs users to technology resources on campus, and makes technology recommendations for the department. This position liaises with the central IT department and attends regular meetings to stay updated on college and campus initiatives.


Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 


Technical Support: 


  • Responds to technical support requests from faculty, researchers, and staff. 


  • Troubleshoots, installs, configures, and upgrades end-user systems. 


  • Provides consulting and training for new systems and applications. 


Computer Lab Maintenance: 


  • Maintains computer teaching labs. 


  • Ensures lab equipment and software are up-to-date and functioning. 


Support Ticket Monitoring: 


  • Monitors support tickets, re-assigns and distributes support requests as appropriate. 


  • Follows up on support tickets handled by other IT staff. 


Department Liaison: 


  • Acts as the liaison between department users and central IT system administrators. 


  • Communicates user needs and issues to the central IT team. 


 Asset Management: 


  • Manages departmental IT assets. 


  • Serves as backup Property Custodian for all departmental assets. 


Information Security Management: 


  • Manages information security for the department. 


  • Conducts risk assessments, planning, and policy implementation. 


Purchasing and Approval: 


  • Submits IT-related device and software purchases for approval. 


  • Ensures compatibility and compliance with college purchasing policies. 


Network Problem Diagnosis: 


  • Diagnoses network-related computer problems. 


  • Troubleshoots port connections and wireless access issues.

Expected Salary:

The salary range is $60,000 - $75,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 
Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting technology for faculty, staff, and students. 


• Knowledge of Windows and Mac OS-X operating systems. 


• Knowledge of Windows-based software packages (Office, Outlook, SAS, SPSS). 


• Knowledge of UNIX/LINUX client operating systems (preferred, but not required). 


• Strong communication and troubleshooting skills. 


• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
