Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence of 2-3 days per week. The manager will confirm the team's core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.


The IT Data Manager is responsible for strategic planning and technical leadership of the data team. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day management and development of a senior level professional team and report directly to the IT Senior Manager of Application and Development Management. This unit supports Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) providing comprehensive management and strategic information and data management through design, query and transformation of enterprise data sources. This position, in collaboration with the IT Senior Manager and Data Architect, will provide project planning and coordination for the development and maintenance of a data warehouse, including concept and design to drive information transition at DAR. The incumbent will be responsible for a comprehensive information management strategy. The Data Manager is responsible for the various team members' assignments, requiring resource time management and technical direction. A close working relationship with Office of Advancement Services (OAS) leadership team will be critical to the success in this role.


The Data Team Lead will manage activities in development, test and production environments; provide direction and technical leadership for direct reports throughout the development lifecycle of data and information processes and systems.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to overall data quality improvement including troubleshooting and making recommendations to improve mass data imports and decrease in duplicate record creation.
  • Leading business requirements workshops with business leaders, subject matter experts and key client sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Participating in projects through requirements definition and solution design phases.
  • Writing solution design documents.
  • Deliver solutions for DAR's information and data requirements.
  • Develop and managing existing databases, ETLs, integrations and reporting tools.
  • Support reporting workstreams and dashboards to implement reporting solutions that meet common Advancement use cases (e.g., prospecting lists, comprehensive campaigns, development officer metrics, alumni engagement, annual giving, prospect management, etc.).
  • Contribute to every phase of the project lifecycle, including development, testing, and deployment (leveraging best practices in release management and devops).
  • Effectively work with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Technical Architects, Customers and Development Leads.
  • Manage scope and customer expectation.
  • Design and manage the execution of user acceptance testing and ensure a quality solution is delivered.
  • Lead knowledge transfer activities and support development of training materials
  • Educate Customer as a data champion




Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of supervisory experience is preferred 
  • Thorough knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, Salesforce Database
  • ETL design and development
  • Must possess strong analytical and programming skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate all essential information to OAS leadership team
  • 5+ years designing, developing and supporting relational databases
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within an Advancement organization or on Advancement implementations
  • Hands-on role in an implementation of an enterprise data warehouse
  • Must demonstrate strong critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize conflicting demands.
  • Ability to execute assigned project tasks within established schedule.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the service of users and colleagues.
  • Writes and communicates clearly and concisely.
  • Possesses sound documentation skills.
  • Must demonstrate exemplary customer service skills.
