Advertised Job Summary
Under supervision of the Deputy Director for Information Technology Services for the College of Engineering and Computing, the Departmental IT System Administrator primarily manages information technology systems for academic departments within the college. The Employee provides technical assistance and troubleshooting for the faculty, staff, and students supporting the academic, outreach, administrative and research computing missions of the college. The employee will liaise with other departments and divisions of the college and university on technical computing matters. Employee trains and supervises student technicians in support of above functions. 
Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Systems or related field and 6 years experience in computer systems development and modifications; or equivalency. 
 
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of Microsoft server and desktop operating systems on a variety of computers, as well as some experience with other operating systems such as, but not limited to Linux/UNIX variants and Macintosh OS. Experience with backup hardware and software and skills in programming or scripting languages using one or more of the following: Python, PERL, Visual Basic, UNIX shell scripting, or Microsoft Powershell scripting. Strong analytical skills to plan & supervise projects. Strong written and verbal communications. Ability to present summary and detailed data to various audiences, and to write comprehensive reports and keep detailed records. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with users, vendors, and other employees. Ability to negotiate contracts and pricing for hardware and software. Employee must be able to self-train and maintain pace with rapidly changing technology as required.
