Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The mission of Information Technology Services is to explore, implement, maintain, and support the uses of technology to achieve the University’s academic and administrative objectives effectively and efficiently as stated in University’s strategic plan.
Description of Work Continued:
This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements, including remote/hybrid work. Fayetteville State University employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

Strategy & Planning
  • Consultation with campus community in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new applications/systems, and enhancements to existing applications/systems.
  • Researching new and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with project sponsors to determine project scope and vision.
  • Identify and establish scope and parameters of requirements analysis on a project-by-project basis to define project impact, outcome criteria, and metrics.
  • Work with stakeholders and project team to prioritize collected requirements.
  • Serve as primary intermediary between project/service functional stakeholders and the technical team delivering/developing the IT or system solution, working under guidance of a project specific sponsor representing IT and/or the business.
  • Where needed, assist functional stakeholders in documenting their current business processes or recommend business process change/renewal where needed to match best practices or simplify the complexity of a system deliverable.

Operational Management
  • Manage, support, and administer multiple applications to include system monitoring and tuning.
  • Write and debug lines of SQL code.
  • Installation of patches and upgrades including both standalone and clustered server environments to ensure applications/systems are on the latest applicable versions.
  • Assist with the implementation of new software and upgrades of existing software.
  • Ensure compatibility and interoperability of applications/systems in the environment.
  • Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems, and other post-implementation support.
  • Ensuring system security.
  • Developing reports, interfaces, scripts, triggers when needed
  • Adhere to Change Management standards.
  • System analysis to continually improve processes and workflows based on industry best practice.
  • Ensuring third party applications are functioning properly and readily accessible with high availability.
  • Perform data validation for integrations.
  • Managing medium to large scale projects or tasks as assigned by management.
  • Develops step by step documentation for processes and procedures associated with the position and maintains an accurate and up to date desk manual.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Customer Service
  • Resolving customer issue through our ticketing system in a timely and professional manner.
  • Respond in a timely manner on service requests submitted pertaining to software issues.
  • Utilizes performance management tools to track work assignments.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
Masters and 2‐4 yrs experience; or Bachelors in computer science, information technology or related area and 3‐5 years’ experience in information technology field related to the position’s role.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
Working technical knowledge of:
- Ellucian Banner
- Databases – (e.g., Oracle, MSSQL)
- Programming languages – (e.g., SQL, Java)
- Reporting Tools – (e.g., WebFOCUS, Argos, ePrint)
- Document Capture – (e.g., Xtender, Hyland, NOLIJ, eTranscript)
- Scheduling – (e.g., Cron, UC4)
• Firsthand experience with business requirements gathering/analysis.
•Strong understanding of information processing principles and practices.
•Experience in the operation and analysis of software, and standards, as well as data retrieval methodologies.
• Knowledge of software evaluation principles and practices.
• Demonstrated project management skills and project management software skills, including planning, organizing, and managing resources
• Must possess the ability to recognize and resolve system and software related problems; work independently and make necessary decisions within department guidelines; perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively; communicate technical and complex information both orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree with two to four years of experience
• 4+ years equivalent work experience in a position overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software, systems, or products.
