Position Summary
The Systems Administrator position assists in facilitating architectural design, implementation, administration, automation, and maintenance activities for University Libraries IT infrastructure and various technologies deployed to support this infrastructure in a highly collaborative and cross-team culture. Responsibilities also include project leadership and consultation across technical platforms and departmental boundaries, and systems maintenance and performance management. This position may interact with customers, technicians, analysts, and specialists to troubleshoot problems related to the use of single and/or multiple information systems. Additionally, work may include the creation, installation, and modification of software and hardware, testing, documentation, and administration of Linux and Windows operating systems.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master’s and 1-2 years’ experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* System administration experience with Linux operating systems.
* Knowledge of network and application standards and protocols.
* Committed to adopting and adhering to best practices including compliance with maintenance windows and change control procedures.
* Motivated self-starter that can take lead of projects, tasks and any challenges that come up.
* Possess verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
* Able to provide after-hours support when needed.
* Able to work on scheduled maintenance activities after-hours during the week and on weekends.
* Experience working effectively with a cross-functional team to plan and complete technical projects.
* A commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where differences and complexities in background, cultures, values, and viewpoints are valued.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Production and development deployment experience of RedHat Enterprise Linux.
* Experience deploying servers in a virtualization environment (VMWare, or equivalent).
* Automation technologies (e.g., Ansible, or SCCM).
* Systems monitoring (e.g., OpsView or Nagios).
* Experience with Windows Server system administration.
* Experience with a common scripting language (e.g., bash, python, powershell, ruby, or php).
* Experience working with regular expressions.
* Experience working with Active Directory and LDAP
* Agile work management (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
* Experience with RDBMS (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server).
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Ability to lift, move, and carry objects weighing 50 pounds with assistance using proper posture and technique.
