What You Will Do

The Operational Readiness and Execution Group is seeking an Operations Support Specalist (OSS) to support important national security missions at LANL. ORI-2’s primary core functions are to support Causals and Trending Assessments; Readiness & Conduct of Operations; Safety Management & Engineering; Manufacturing Systems; Tactical Scheduling; Nuclear Materials Management; and Industrial Engineering.

The OSS will report to the ORI-2 Causal Analysis Team First Line Manager, and will be deployed to ALDPI to support construction and recapitalization efforts in PF-4. The selected candidate’s responsibilities include ensuring the timely tracking, updating, and evidence entry of issues and corrective action within the Issues Management System. The Issues Management System is a critical component of managing events and issues within the ALDPI, as well as mitigating risk, all of which have visibility to ALDPI and Laboratory senior management.

The Operations Support Specalist will enter issues into the issues management system as directed by management, or as the result of a fact finding. The Operations Support Specalist tracks issues cradle to grave for assigned organizations within the Issues Management System, including entering corrective actions, attaching objective evidence, and contacting the owning action responsible manager to ensure timely completion. The Operations Support Specalist will work with issues owning managers to request extentions as necessary, and help them craft the final evidence needed to close out an issue or action. Additionally, the Operations Support Specalist will be responsible for supporting and conducting monthly Management Review Board (MRB) meetings for their assigned organizations. Responsibilities related to the MRB support include gathering slides, assembling simple charts or graphs, setting up or managing WebEX invites, and hosting the MRB.

This position support ALDPI, and as a result may be required to work a backshift schedule.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Business Systems: Demonstrated ability to work in business systems such as Oracle, SharePoint, or LANL specific systems like the Issues Managements System, and iLINK that utilize workflow notification, track issues, and have report out functions.

Communication and Customer Interaction: Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, including upper management. Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to contact customer organization and check status, and provides updates as necessary. Demonstrated ability to organize and conduct meeting that include upper management, gather and alter presentation materials, and drive meetings.

Organizational Skills: Demonstrated ability to maintain numerous multiple records at one time. High level of attention to detail and ability to keep meticulous records and references. Demonstrated ability to catalog documents.

Policy knowledge and compliance: Demonstrated knowledge of contractor assurance concepts, rooted in issues management policy and its role within the Laboratory’s Contractor Assurance System (CAS).

Data Reporting: Demonstrated ability utilize report out functions in business softeware to yield informative reports, manipulate simple spreadsheets, develop graphs, and combine into presentation style formats.

Clearance: Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance

Education/Experience for Operations Support Specialist 4: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

DOE Order knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of DOE order 232.2A and related performance assurance and continuous improvement related requirements within LANL Policy (e.g. P 322-4 Issues Management).

Lean Six Sigma: Lean Six Sigma qualifications or experience

Clearance: Active DOE Q Clearance

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2-Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information
