Description

 

The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. 

To maintain, repair and install manual and automatic irrigated systems and related equipment including but not limited to hydraulic and electrically operated irrigation controllers. To inspect systems and repair and adjust controllers, automatic and manual valves and a variety of sprinkler heads. To perform a wide variety of major construction, demolition, groundskeeping and landscaping tasks and assists other team members with daily work and special projects.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS TO INCLUDE:

·        Installs, maintains, and repairs a variety of irrigation systems and components. Installs smart irrigation controllers and associated flow-sensing equipment. Maintains and repairs timer clocks, sprinkler heads and various piping. Operates faultfinders and valve locators.

·        Regularly inspects systems and components to ensure good working condition.  Troubleshoots system issues and looks for ways to enhance existing systems to make them more efficient.

·        Performs a wide variety of major construction, demolition, groundskeeping and landscaping tasks.

·        Actively participates in ongoing department training.  Pursues specialized training and certifications to stay abreast of industry changes and to advance expertise.  Uses assigned communication device to read and respond to texts, emails and requests for service.

·        Performs other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

·         Mechanical skills to include plumbing and electrical

·         Demonstrated ability to repair, install and maintain irrigation systems

·         Knowledge of manual and automatic irrigation systems

·         Basic trades mathematics

·         Ability to operate commonly used grounds equipment and tools

·         Ability to read, write and understand basic instructions

·         Ability to work in confined spaces

·         Ability to independently

·         Ability to work as part of a team

·         Ability to troubleshoot/resolve issues

·         Ability to operate heavy construction equipment

 

Starting Hourly Rate: $16.00 - $23.29/hour (Commensurate with experience & qualifications)

 

Work Schedule: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, between the hours, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Shifts are subject to change to meet the needs of the University.

 

Qualifications

 

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and four (4) years of experience working in landscape management and irrigation required. Experience with plumbing, pumps or electrical systems is preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

 

MVR:

Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver’s license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

PERSONAL:

Possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this position to include:

·         Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds

·         Climbing stairs

·         Performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.

·         Working in confined spaces.

·         Working within extreme temperature ranges.
