JOB SUMMARY:

The Investigations and Compliance Specialist is a part time position (25 hours a week) responsible for assisting the Title IX Coordinator with institutional compliance efforts required under federal and state laws, including Title IX, Title VII, VAWA and Article 129-B of the NYS Education Law. The Investigations and Compliance Specialist will work closely with the Title IX Coordinator in managing an assigned caseload of investigations involving allegations against employees under Title IX and Title VII and related retaliation. This position will conduct campus training and outreach for all community members, with a focus on employee trainings and ongoing education. This position will primarily be on-site.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $44,174. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

REPORTS TO: Chief of Community Concerns and Resolution/Title IX Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Assist the Title IX Coordinator with the investigation and coordination of cases involving sexual harassment, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking and protected class harassment and discrimination and related retaliation for employees.
  • Effectively and efficiently manage an assigned caseload of investigations.
  • Consult with the Title IX Coordinator to develop an investigative plan and timeline. Gather evidence, interview witnesses and act as a neutral party through all aspects of the investigation to ensure a prompt, fair and equitable result.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ensure a well-documented investigative process. Maintain accurate and thorough records and notes of the investigatory process in Maxient Conduct Manager. Create comprehensive written investigative reports that clearly identify the issues investigated, summarizes the evidence, correlates the findings with University policies and recommends appropriate steps.
  • Collaborate and consult with the Title IX Coordinator to monitor and manage Title IX and Title VII incidents to ensure an efficient and effective response. Provide periodic and timely updates regarding the status of all pending reports and investigations.
  • Maintain oversight over applicable University policies for the office and monitor legal trends.
  • Keep abreast of current state and federal laws and trends regarding Title IX, discrimination pregnancy accommodations, equal opportunity, and harassment.
  • Assist with University-wide training efforts for both students and employees.
  • Serve on University committees as needed.
  • Consult with external University counsel as needed.
  • Perform other job related duties assigned by the Title IX Coordinator.
  • REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Demonstrated experience conducting sensitive interviews and investigations and/or complaint/grievance resolution.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent judgement and decision-making skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple on-going investigations.
  • Ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong computer skills required and an eagerness to learning new technology.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate sensitivity and respect for individual needs.
  • Expertise in building relationships and balancing conflicting interests of diverse stakeholders.
  • Prior knowledge or use of Maxient Conduct Manager preferred.
  • Occasional weekends and evenings required.
  • EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related fields required.
  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, higher education, or related fields is preferred.
  • Two years professional experience conducting investigations is preferred.
  • Experience in student conduct or an office of discrimination and harassment is preferred.
  • Knowledge, training, and experience related to Title IX and Title VII.
  • Experience investigating cases involving discrimination and harassment.
  • Experience working with unions and unionized staff and faculty is preferred.
