Job Overview

The College of Medicine, Hoxworth Blood Center is recruiting an Inventory Control Specialist 2-9 in the Components department. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff, and all our activities.  
  
The Inventory Control Specialist 2-9 will receive orders for components and select appropriate components for packaging and shipping of the orders. This position will perform importing and exporting of blood components from local, regional, and national partners. This position will ensure the quality control of all components according to SOP and facilitate the transport of or perform the delivery of the components ordered, meet the delivery time frames specified by the customer, and provide excellent customer service to customers. Candidates will learn to perform component inventory reconciliation and critical storage unit inventory control. Additional duties may include red cell filtration, segmenting, electronic component modification, and labeling. 

 
The candidate must be able to lift and move up to 75 pounds, work for periods of time in extreme cold temperatures, have a critical understanding of first in, first out (FIFO) rotation of perishable inventories, be computer literate (use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, DOS, and web-based applications), be able to follow standard operating procedures, and adhere to federal, state, and local government laws, regulations, standards and guidelines. The candidate must be able to routinely read small print with accuracy and discern minute differences in names, numbers, and text. The candidate must have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record to perform the delivery of components when needed and be able to work a flexible schedule that will include working weekends and holidays. The current position being filled is for 2nd shift, 3rd shift and weekends. Required competencies include effective communication skills, initiative, teamwork, and customer service.

 


Essential Functions
  • Coordinate work schedules for receiving, inspecting, distributing and maintaining inventory of materials, supplies and equipment. Control equipment and fixed assets inventory and coordinate annual inventory data gathering process.
  • Implement policies and procedures on inventory control and salvage disposal, monitor receipt and disposition of surplus property and resolve problems involved with inventory of supplies.
  • Coordinate with supervisory on disposal of useless equipment, evaluate distribution and inventory systems and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Maintain computerized inventory record systems; update systems, prepare report and recommend database/system changes as needed.

High School Diploma or GED

Eighteen (18) months inventory control experience.
