Summary

The Coordinator of Intramurals and BUC Kids Camp is responsible for planning and managing all aspects of intramural sports programs for the University.  The Coordinator is also responsible for ensuring that recreation and leisure activities are provided to students, faculty and staff on a consistent basis. 

This position is also responsible for managing the BUC Kids Summer Camp and The Fun Fit Friday programs.

This individual will serve a key role in offering the Barry University community a physical activity outlet for recreational sport.


Essential Functions

  • Plan and manage all aspects of intramural sports program.
  • Assess student intramural needs. Reserve space for the events.
  • Develop a system for students to register (IMLeagues). 
  • Market and advertise the events.
  • Coordinate schedules for games and events.
  • Handle all virtual updates.
  • Provide a safe environment for participants to compete.
  • Assist with pre and post game events.
  • Develop logistics and administrative functions.
  • Establish and implement risk management policies (communicates with Public Safety for all league play.
  • Assess participants and evaluate results of programs to enhance offerings.
  • Prepare equipment and necessary resources (i.e. first aid kits, hydration, and ice) for events.
  • Evaluate and recommend program changes annually as part of the Annual Report process with Director.  This includes participant recording and survey assessment.
  • Directly manage and officiate intramural competition.
  • Ensure each field and/or facility is ready for use before each game or match.
  • Organize equipment and supplies for each game. Set up before each game and break down after each game. 
  • Train work study students to do score keeping and officiating.
  • Provide recreational opportunities for students. 
  • Arrange for "open recreation" times for students/faculty/staff at all recreational facilities.
  • Maintain recreational schedules and calendars. Supervise work study and graduate assistant to staff areas of open recreational play. Record participant numbers.
  • Maintain a rapport with Public Safety, maintenance, Jim Cox for space reservation, housekeeping, and all other auxiliary units for the safe and clean operation of all recreational facilities.
  • Manage, organize, and promote the BUC Kids Summer Camp and its day to day operation.

  • Reserve rooms, facilities, equipment and supplies for camp.

  • Promote the camp through brochures, flyers, internet, magazines and newspapers. 

  • Prepare the banners to be hung on the fences along Miami Avenue and N.E. Second Street.

  • Maintain the FACEBOOK page for BUCKids Camp. 

  • Hire and manage staff counselors, instructors and leaders. 

    Recruit campers.

  • Create and organize all activities and special events held at camp.

    Apply for the free food grand and ensure that food is delivered and provided each day.

    Arrange Field trips.

  • Manage the staff and handle all staff issues.

  • Address camper and parents concerns.  Provide for the ongoing safety of each camper.

  • Collect funds for summer camp registration.

  • Create receipts and logs revenue collected. 

  • Assist Director with management of office and performs other administrative duties as assigned or required. These tasks may include ordering supplies, filling out work orders, etc.  moving and organizing equipment, cleaning and/or repairing equipment, or rooms.  Maintaining equipment and organizing the office.


Qualifications/Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree is required.  A Master's degree is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience.  Previous experience in a recreation department, summer camp or organized university intramural department is highly preferred.
  • Must be able to operate Fitness equipment and other specialized equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Intermediate level of experience with Microsoft Office applications.
