Housed under the Division of Student Affairs, Georgetown University Campus Recreation plays a crucial role in providing co-curricular opportunities for the Georgetown University campus and community. Dedicated towards the cultivation of the ‘whole’ person, Campus Recreation provides a variety of opportunities for all students to enhance their university experience through recreation, fitness, and well-being. Through our various sport and recreation programs , students are given the opportunity to connect with each other and experience personal growth in a fun, comfortable, and challenging yet safe environment. It is an exciting time to join the Georgetown University Campus Recreation team! The recently completed construction of a 110,000 sq. ft. top of the line AstroTurf 3D3 trionic fiber field, and competition-grade Beynon Track, provides an opportunity to recreate Intramural Sports and outdoor activities at Georgetown University. The Intramural and Recreational Sports Coordinator has the opportunity to build and develop the student-lead Intramural Sports program, help bridge students and professional staff through aiding the creation of diverse and inclusive opportunities for maximum participation that raises the profile of health and wellness on Georgetown University’s campus, and help shape the students’ college recreation experience!

The Intramural Sports & Recreational Coordinator assists in the planning, organization, and implementation of all activities associated with Georgetown University’s Campus Recreation Intramural Sports (IMs) Department. They actively and thoughtfully works to expand recreation programming to provide a vibrant experience for the diverse Georgetown community through intentional cross campus Departmental collaborations.

As part of the core values of the University, the Intramural Sports & Recreational Coordinator demonstrates an appreciation for the critical importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and is expected to assist in leading a department that fosters a welcoming environment that promotes and celebrates all dimensions of difference and diversity. To be successful:

The Intramural and Recreational Sports (IMs) Coordinator is a self-motivated professional and has a demonstrated experience with Intramural Sport program planning and implementation, student leadership development, scheduling, facility management, and field and turf management. Specifically, they are a team player and provides support to the Campus Recreation Professional Staff, assists with the administration of the IMs Department, manages the scheduling of facilities to accommodate intramural and club sports activities throughout the academic year, and supervises more than 40 student employees. The IMs Coordinator assists with payroll responsibilities for the department and makes primary recommendations for the appropriate use of the equipment budget. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness, the IMs Coordinator works primarily as the supervisor of all IMs programming, providing on-site supervision and coordination of evening and weekend operations of intramural sports including training, development, and evaluation of student officials and lead staff, performing special projects, and completing other duties as assigned. The IMs is comfortable and knowledgeable in organizing and facilitating Esports and gaming events.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in the planning, organization, and implementation of all activities associated with the Intramural Sports (IMs) Department for the GU community
  • Supervises league registration and schedules using IMLeagues
  • Assists with assessing programming effectiveness and satisfaction within IMs as it relates to industry trends on a yearly basis, and  keeps records of Intramural participation numbers
  • Seeks sponsorship opportunities for the department to defray program costs
  • Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of student sports officials, scorekeepers, supervisors, and office managers
  • Directly supervises a team of (40+) student employees tasked with running the day-to-day operation of the IMs Department
  • Accountable for payroll responsibilities for the IMs student staff
  • Assists in supervision of Yates Field House, including Kehoe Field
  • Aids development and maintenance of manuals and coordinates training sessions/clinics to assist student leadership
  • Works primarily as the supervisor of all IMs programming which occur mostly on evenings and weekends and assists in set up and take down for events
  • Co-supervises indoor and outdoor facility scheduling and requests for games and practices
  • Guides scheduling of IMs student staff shifts
  • Serves as the student advocate of the Georgetown Recreation Engagement Council (G-REC) to bridge students and professional staff and assist in the creation of diverse and inclusive opportunities for maximum participation that raises the profile of health and wellness on Georgetown University’s campus

Other Responsibilities

  • Conduct performance evaluations with the intramural student sports officials
  • Track, maintain, and organize intramural participation statistics for annual reports
  • Participate in the revision of the intramural policies and procedures
  • Employ self-motivation and energy for overseeing a student-lead program
  • Manage appropriate equipment inventory to support daily operations and makes primary recommendations for the appropriate use of the Intramurals equipment budget
  • Oversee care, function, and cleanliness of all IMs equipment
  • Prepare and maintain all equipment for upcoming events
  • Provide support as needed to the Campus Recreation Professional Staff
  • Collaborate with Club Sports and/or the Georgetown Athletics Department to build strong partnerships on campus
  • Represent the department on a variety of University committees and task forces within the Division of Student Affairs and work across boundaries, cultivate and sustain collegial relationships, and build unity around difficult issues
  • Express proven commitment to student and staff development and customer service
  • Demonstrate ability to take initiative, problem-solve, and meet deadlines
  • Resolve office management issues, handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, and enforce department policies
  • Fortify knowledge of sports and recreation terminology, including Esports and gaming

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in an appropriate area of specialization
  • One to three years of relevant professional experience
  • Certification in CPR/AED/First Aid must be obtained within 60 days of hire
