Position Summary

The Internship Coordinator is responsible for supporting the educational and occupational growth of students by developing and delivering comprehensive student internship and career development placement services. The internship coordinator acts as a liaison between students, faculty, employers, and other constituents to align internship opportunities with academic units and workforce needs.
This role offers the opportunity for a hybrid remote work arrangement as determined by the Associate Vice-President of Student Affairs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Effectively markets, recruits and advises students through multiple modalities for  available internship opportunities and guides the student through entire internship process.

  • Identifies and collaborates with prospective internship employers and completes onboarding process for partnership with the institution.

  • Effectively collaborates with faculty and community workforce partners to align internship opportunities with academic programs and workforce needs.

  • Completes internship course scheduling processes, collaborates with faculty to develop curriculum  effectively maintains learning management system (LMS), and effectively completes registration processes.

  • Monitors quality of placements and conducts site visits.

  •  Evaluates program and implements improvements.

  • Collaborates with career services to conduct quarterly workshops on selecting an internship and other career services.

  • Prepares reports for institution and community partners.

  • Participates with various committees as related to role and as requested.

  • Coordinate special events/projects as related to internship program and as requested.

  • Promote SFCC’s diversity and educational goals. Support diversity and inclusion need assessment and initiatives.

  • Although the above are typical of the duties and responsibilities normally performed, additional duties and responsibilities requiring similar skills, knowledge and dexterity may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in a related field.

  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant and consecutive experience.

  • Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.


OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.

  • One (1) year of relevant and consecutive experience.

  • Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in career and internship activities.

  • Experience in community engagement activity.

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Physical Demands

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping with active physical engagement in activities and events. The employee may occasionally lift light to medium objects.

  • The work is typically performed in an office and in the local community.

Schedule

  • Typically 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work after hours and/or weekends. May require remote work.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Community College Experience.

  • Experience in internship engagement activities.

  • Knowledge of budget preparation, maintenance, procurement, and compliance principles.

  • Knowledge of program evaluation and co-curricular principles.

  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of program management principles.

  • Knowledge of Leadership Principles and Skills.

  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and listening.

  • Skills in analysis of data: the ability to effectively collect, analyze, and use data to create and evaluate internship initiatives.

  • Skills in the delegation of responsibility and authority.

  • Skills in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.

  • Skills in decision making, problem solving, and project management.

  • Skills in interpersonal relations, maintaining effective working relationships and in dealing with the public.

  • Skills in MSWord, Excel, Powerpoint, Zoom and other software.

  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of community members, students, faculty, administrators and support staff in accomplishing tasks.

  • Ability to manage departmental budget and resources to meet established goals.

  • Ability to supervise staff and student employees as necessary.

  • Ability to manage staff of diverse individuals.

  • Ability to provide quality customer service.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.

  • Ability to effectively utilize best practices in strategic planning and evaluation of efforts by effectively using data.

  • Ability to apply sustainability concepts into work systems.
