Position Title International Summer Camp ESL Teacher

Position Summary
The Office of International Students & Scholar Services invites candidates for International Summer Camp ESL Teacher for a temporary one-month summer assignment with direct youth instruction during the two-week camp running July 7-July 19, 2024. Position develops and executes lesson plans for a summer camp for international youth ages 12-17 with an emphasis on helping youth better understand and apply their skills in the English language. Staff training and lesson plan preparation will take place during the two weeks prior to camp commencement. The International Summer Camp ESL Teacher reports to Coordinator of International Visitors.

Essential Functions
  • Develop camper ESL instruction plan in English language that meet state and federal standards.
  • Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students; lessons should address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and enunciate.
  • Deliver lesson plans utilizing a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies that are consistent and aligns with UIW international instruction program.
  • Ensure instruction allows for students to meet and/or exceed individual camper learning targets.
  • Administer academic and language assessments to evaluate student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress.
  • Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate standards of student behavior to ensure program runs in an orderly and productive manner.

  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Associate Degree or 60 college hours. Note that additional relevant education will be considered in lieu of experience.
Required Work Experience
At least one (1) year of teaching experience at the K-12 level or higher, preferably in ESL.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual.
  • At least two (2) years of ESL Instruction courses.
  • ESL Teaching Certification.
  • Teacher Certification or Training.
  • Bachelor’s Degree
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Current CPR and First-Aid certified or ability to become certified through UIW sponsored training prior to camp commencement.
Work Hours
  • Two week preparations prior to camp is on a flexible schedule and meeting attendance is virtual.
  • Camp: Mon through Thursday 8am -2pm from July 7 – 19, 2024.
  • Attendance at Camp Welcome & Awards is mandatory: Sunday, July 7 from 4:00-6:00 pm & Friday, July 19, 9:00am.
Physical Demands
  • Be able to lift up to 15 lbs.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
  • Ability to actively engage in program events for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to regularly move about camp venue to actively engage campers, as well as attend meetings.
