International Student Counselor

Job Summary

Promote the collaborative advancement of the college' internationalization efforts and coordinate programs to enhance the experience and development of international students. Support international students as they adjust to life, navigate resources, and explore their experiences at Tulsa Community College. 


Essential Duties

Support the oversight of immigration services, provide group and individual advising to international students to ensure students' understanding of immigration regulations while studying at TCC and establish and provide student-centered resources to help achieve on-time degree completion.

Act as the initial point of contact for verification of visas.

Serve as designated school official and support institutional compliance with federal policies and regulations related to the Department of Homeland Security, Department of State, and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Interpret and advise on complex U.S. immigration laws, regulations, policies, and procedures with a specific focus on F-1 and J-1 immigration regulations.

Assist in the planning and implementation of the International Student Services Recruitment and Retention plan.

Maintain thorough knowledge of all College programs, including academic and extracurricular programs.

Assist the Director in coordinating the arrival of international students, including transportation and other related arrangements for incoming students at the beginning of each term.

Represent the International Student Services office at events as required.

Perform other duties related to the position as required or directed.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in International Studies, Public Administration, Counseling, Psychology, Human Relations, Social Work, or a related field.

One year of related work experience.

Proven track record of excellent communication and collaborative professional relationships.

Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and intercultural skills, and commitment to providing a student-centric approach to services.

Experience with SEVIS and F- 1/J-1 regulations, procedures, and reporting requirements.


Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Department of State and Department of Homeland Security regulations and procedures.

Strong working knowledge of immigration laws, regulations, and procedures.
