Description of Work Unit | International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) is one of several units within International Programs and fosters the education and development of nearly 1,500 international students, scholars and faculty from over 100 countries, to enable them to achieve their academic, professional and personal goals and objectives. ISSS staff provide advice, counseling and advocacy on immigration, cultural, financial, academic and personal concerns, and make appropriate referrals when necessary. Immigration services include immigration documentation and advising to nonimmigrant visa bearers at Colorado State University, as well as permanent residency processing for individuals in positions of permanent employment with the University. ISSS also supports a campus environment conducive to international education and intercultural awareness via educational, social and cross-cultural programs for students, faculty, staff and community. Position Summary | The ISSS Advisor is responsible for providing international student support in the form of individual and group student advising before, during and after pursuing/completing a degree at CSU. The position supports international students and scholars in achieving their academic, professional and personal goals and objectives while at the University. The ISSS Advisor will learn F-1 and J-1 immigration regulations as well as University policies, procedures, and support systems in order to provide excellent services, advice, counseling, advocacy, and referrals related to immigration, cultural, financial, academic, and personal concerns. The ISSS Advisor also serves on committees and supports a variety of office programs and activities. This is a full-time administrative professional position based in Fort Collins and reports to the Assistant Director for International Student Services. The position works predominantly in person on the CSU campus, with the potential for some flexibility in work arrangements. |
Required Job Qualifications | 1. Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, education, business, science, public administration, international/intercultural studies, or a related field 2. Demonstrated interest in student engagement and international education 3. Ability to interpret government regulatory language 4. Experience working in an office setting 5. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with a wide range of people, including culturally diverse communities 6. U.S. citizen or permanent resident status in order to serve as a Designated School Official for F-1 visa purposes and as an Alternate Responsible Officer for the Exchange Visitor Program. |

Demonstrated experience and training with federal immigration rules applying to F-1 and J-1 students and scholars 3. Ability to think analytically and creatively 4. Strong computer skills, including experience in database applications 7. Experience or training in intercultural relations and adjustment 8. Experience with university academic and administrative policies and procedures 9. Capable of handling confidential matters with discretion and maintaining scrupulous attention to detail. |
