Position Summary and Duties | The Associate Director for Recruitment and Staff Development is responsible for all student staff and professional staff recruitment, hiring, on-boarding, and continued training, along with all assessment practices for the Office of Student Life. The Associate Director also provides direct supervision to two Assistant Directors (ADs), serves as a senior member of the on-call system, and serves as a member of the office leadership team. The Associate Director reports directly to the Director of Student Life. The Associate Director is part of a larger Student Life team, this position also provides a unique opportunity to develop skills in high-level crisis response, staff supervision, student conduct, and housing operations. This position also directly supervises two live-in ADs who are responsible for the day-to-day management of combined residential areas consisting of multiple Graduate Residence Coordinators (GRCs) and Resident Assistants (RAs). Student Life ADs also support and implement RA & GRC recruitment, training, and development processes. On a small, collaborative campus, the Associate may also be involved in campus-wide initiatives including serving as a mentor in Messina – Loyola’s living learning initiative. Primary Job Responsibilities: Recruitment and Hiring • Serve as the hiring manager for all professional staff positions, in consultation with the Director • Develop job postings in partnership with Human Resources, coordinate application review processes, and coordinate all candidate logistics for professional hiring processes • Provide guidance and oversight for all graduate and undergraduate student staff recruitment and hiring processes • Support divisional hiring processes and serve as a resource for other offices Staff Development and Training • Coordinate and oversee professional staff training and on-going development • Oversee the design and implementation of graduate staff training and on-going development • Oversee the design and implementation of undergraduate staff training and on-going development • Provide guidance and leadership for the on-going training of 80 RAs and 20 GRCs • Support divisional training initiatives (Ignatian Leadership Institute, Green Dot, etc.) Assessment Strategies • Oversee the development and administration of the annual Student Life survey • Analyze and interpret data from the annual Student Life survey • Utilize various software programs, including Campus Groups (The Bridge), Qualtrics, and SharePoint • Oversee the graduate and undergraduate student staff evaluation processes • Oversee the administration of the EBI survey and any other benchmarking tools for residence life and community development • Provide support for assessment practices for the Division (Research Consultation Group, etc.) Supervision and Development of Assistant Directors • Directly supervise two Assistant Directors. • Provide general oversight to their residential areas, including guidance regarding student employee job action • Indirectly supervise the other Assistant Directors by providing guidance and consultation about staffing issues and community development • Provide oversight to the RA Selection, Training, and Development Committee and the GRC Selection, Training, and Development Committee • Lead and participate in trainings, staff meetings, and 1-1 meetings Team Leadership • Serve in the senior level on-call duty rotation and consult with Assistant Directors about emergency and crisis situations. Respond to situations when necessary. • Communicate and respond to concerns from parents, guardians, and other constituents • Meet with the other Associates and Director to discuss office concerns/needs, strategic planning, and review office processes. • Support both the departmental and divisional goals focused on diversity and inclusion |
Required Qualifications | Qualifications • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling in Student Affairs or a related field • 3-5 years of post-Master’s professional experience • 1-3 years of residence life and on-call crisis response experience • Knowledge of student development theory • Demonstrated ability to support and advocate for underrepresented students as well as utilizing a social justice lens in the development of training, development, and recruitment processes • Knowledge of the needs of a residential community and the ability to manage overlapping, complex housing operations processes • Ability to supervise full-time professionals • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum design, experience creating and assessing learning outcomes, strong presentation skills, and the ability to create engaging staff development activities that cultivate leadership and positive staff morale • Ability to respond to and consult about a myriad of emergency and/or on call situations • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of constituents • Ability to work autonomously and interdependently as needed • Ability to support the University’s goals for institutional diversity, as well as the goals and values of a Catholic, Jesuit education. The Associate Director serves on call 24 hours a day, which includes weekends. They are expected to consult about and potentially respond to issues at any time, including late at night and early in the morning. Because Loyola is primarily a residential campus, the Associate Director has contact with almost all students through their work with assessment. The Associate Director deals with a high volume of student and parent/guardian contact and also manages a number of complex and detail oriented processes. The Associate Director is essential personnel and expected to respond at times when the University is closed. |
