Dennison Theater, College of Visual & Performing Arts invites applications for three (3) part time Intermittent Stage Technician (Intermittent Facilities Assistant) to assist in delivery of Dennison Theatre technical stage services. This position is responsible for setting up all types of lighting equipment including computer and manual lighting controllers, follow spots, and theatrical, video and non-industry lighting instruments; setting up all types of audio equipment, including mixing consoles, playback units, amplifiers, speakers, and microphones; setting up all types of projection equipment including film, slide, and video equipment; setting up symphony shells; setting up and take down of various equipment; cleaning and maintaining all theatre production equipment, backstage areas, and front of house areas; supervising student employees; and may operate technical equipment during the event, rehearsal, or performance.

  • Experience setting and operating stage lighting and sound systems
  • An understanding of current Health & Safety legislation
  • Strong communications skills
  • Ability to learn Hemp House rigging and apply safe working loads and weight limits
  • Ability to assist with the inspection of the fly system
  • Knowledge and skill to ensure the custodial needs of the Theatre are met
  • Excellent customer service skills including tact and diplomacy
  • Basic administrative skills including record keeping
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative under pressure
  • Ability to work to a deadline
  • Work schedule is event driven; must be able to work an intermittent schedule consisting of evenings and weekends, and sometimes days. Position requires alternative work schedule.
  • High School diploma and one (1) year related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Formerly known as the University Theatre, the George & Jane Dennison Theatre opened in 1935. It was the first building built on a College Campus using WPA (Work Progress Administration) funds during the Great Depression. It was originally known as the Student Union Building and the theatre was the prominent feature. In 1996 it underwent a complete renovation which allowed it to become ADA accessible and provide air conditioning resulting in a very pleasurable venue for various art events.

The College of Visual and Performing Arts serves as the flagship institution for the arts in Montana. The College offers a full complement of undergraduate and graduate degrees in art, media arts, music, theatre and dance and integrated arts and education.

Work Schedule:                 Intermittent Part-time, 0.25 FTE (10 Hours a week); 12 Months year. Work schedule is event driven; intermittent schedule consisting of evenings and weekends, and sometimes days. Position requires alternative work schedule.

Salary:                                $11.026/hr Position may be hired at Facilities Assistant ($11.026/hr), or Facilities Associate ($11.522/hr), dependent on qualifications. Position is designed for career ladder progression; advancement from Facilities Assistant to Facilities Associate is expected within 12 months – 18 months. Current employees rate of pay for this position will be determined by the staff compensation plan, and may be different from the posted salary.
