Provides technical support for network and telecommunications systems. This includes reviewing, analyzing, and maintaining the campus LAN networks, WLAN networks, and telecommunications systems across the university. The primary focus of this position will be on WLAN support and operations. As such, an understanding of WLAN design, operations, and an overall grasp of WLAN management is desired. In addition, a familiarity with WLAN troubleshooting and design tools would be a benefit to the candidate. The ability to be a self-starter, a desire to expand one’s personal knowledgebase, and a drive to innovate also will make one a strong candidate for the position.
 


  • Analyzes network performance, provides network support, and performs system maintenance tasks.

  • Analyzes and monitors network performance.

  • Provides network support and resolves connectivity issues.

  • Configures hardware and software to optimize network communication.

  • Sets up LAN and WAN networks, as well as Voice Over IP and VTC devices.

  • Measures, cuts, splices, pulls, jacks and terminates cable. Troubleshoots, tests, repairs, replaces, or adjusts components using hand tools and test equipment.

  • Assist with job quotes for material cost, time and labor for future projects by reading and understanding schematics, wire diagrams, and technical drawings and understanding building code requirements for installation.

  • Performs Moves, Adds, and Changes.  Programs and installs new telecom extensions and resolves issues with emergency call boxes.

  • Works with external contractors to ensure proper cabling requirements are followed.

  • Manages IP addresses and resolves conflicts.

  • Monitors and maintains network servers and performs upgrades.

  • Performs system administration tasks and ensures network security.

  • Documents processes and monitors network performance metrics.

  • Consults with internal departments and trains IT support staff.

  • Keeps up with advancements in network technologies and solutions.

  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
 

Job Requirements

Required education: Bachelor's Degree, AND

  • 48 months experience as a Network Analyst or similar experience

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months related experience in lieu of the Bachelor¿s Degree for a total of 96 months related experience
 


  • Advanced knowledge of hardware, software, and network installation techniques

  • Ability to provide network support and resolve errors

  • Extensive experience with Inter-Network Operating Systems    

  • Knowledge of network setup and security

  • Ability to keep up with advancements in IT network technologies

  • Proficiency in documenting processes and monitoring performance metrics     

  • Ability to communication verbally and in writing    

  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with the following systems/vendors is a plus: Cisco, Aruba, Avaya, InfoBlox
