Organizational Unit Overview
Academic Library Services (ALS) is a branch of Academic Affairs and reports through the Provost/ Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs. ALS serves East Carolina University faculty, students, staff and visitors by offering library research and services to support the research, instruction and service goals of the University.

Job Duties
East Carolina University’s Joyner Library Circulation & Interlibrary Loan department seeks an Interlibrary Loan Borrowing Manager to provide books, articles, media, and other resources from outside libraries and vendors to ECU students, faculty, and staff. The position also assists in providing ECU resources to ECU patrons and outside libraries. Assistance is given to patrons seeking help in person, by phone, and by email. Request citations are verified using online library resources and then sent to identified outside libraries and vendors for fulfillment. Invoices for obtained materials and lost or damaged materials are handled. Processing materials upon arrival and for return, physically searching library collections, scanning materials, and performing other manual duties are required. This position directs the work of student assistants performing interlibrary loan tasks. The position also serves patrons at the Circulation desk, which includes: circulating library materials and equipment; processing new patron registrations and material renewals, holds, and recalls; supervising student employee desk assistants; independently interpreting and applying procedures; explaining library procedures to patrons; and solving problems and disputes. This position is responsible for making decisions that affect the immediate borrowing privileges of patrons, accepting payments for fines and fees, referring patrons to appropriate personnel to ensure customer satisfaction, and, in the absence of Research & Instructional Services personnel, providing basic research service using the library’s website, online catalog, library research databases and tools, and other internet resources.
To support positive work-life balance, in accordance with university’s Flexible Work Arrangements regulation, this position can work remotely up to one day per week after training period.
Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Academic research experience; experience providing interlibrary loan services and using ILL management systems; academic library experience; customer service experience; accounts receivable and accounts payable experience; supervisory experience; proficiency with Microsoft Office; demonstrated ability to follow established procedures, enforce rules, and perform work requiring considerable detail and accuracy; demonstrated initiative and ingenuity; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with diverse patrons and personnel; demonstrated ability to work consistently and reliably in an unsupervised capacity; demonstrated problem-solving skills; and ability to learn complex tasks quickly.
