Job Description

ASU Knowledge Enterprise Strategic Marketing and Communications is seeking a graphic design/visual communication design professional to fill their open Interaction Designer position. The Interaction Designer will be working closely and collaboratively with the other designers in the team and clients to design, create, visualize and deliver creative outcomes in print, digital, web and motion graphics. This position is expected to create forward-thinking visualization for data and scientific discoveries and to support the core KE brand and strategic marketing.

Salary Range

$40,320 - $50,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Designs and prepares creative works for various marketing promotion materials, such as information flyers, brochures, handouts, newsletters, event collaterals and other printed/digital deliverables.
  • Coordinates with clients requesting graphic design or layout work; develops ideas; suggests new or modifies existing ideas; demonstrated professional graphic techniques and design industry’s best practices. 
  • Understands the creative process and execution for handling graphic design projects (print and web/digital projects)Interprets key messages and applies design best practices for effective visual storytelling. Drive design discussions and collaborative sessions with teams and stakeholders, helping to generate and present visual concepts.
  • Uses a a variety of desktop publishing, graphic design software, user interface/web and motion graphic tools.
  • Obtains cost estimates for graphic design requests, prepares printing specifications for print shop; maintains contact with vendors to ensure adherence to deadlines, time schedules and specifications. 
  • Assists in the planning and estimating of design activities, participating in broader work stream coordination and expectation setting.
  • Maintains and updates KE communications’ visual assets, templates and digital library on a regular basis.
  • Performs photography assistance and photo processing/manipulation for storytelling.
  • Advocates for and manages quality control of all KE creative projects, identifying enhancement opportunities when appropriate (usability, interaction design, and content visualization) for print/digital/interactive/motion/social media.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Graphic Art or related field ANDFive (5) years related experience in graphic design and/or website design and programming; OR, nine (9) years experience in graphic design and/or website design; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Graphic design/visual communication design experience
  • Ability to maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships with clients and among team members.
  • Experience in using design skill set in the use of typography, visual composition and layout design across print, digital and motion platforms.
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of interaction, responsive and visual design principles.
  • Experience working independently, follow directions, multi-tasking, attention to detail and handling projects with tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and AfterEffect.
  • Proactively identifies, develops and deploys solutions to improve effectiveness of multimedia delivered materials and information. 
  • Experience in printing process (including setup, press check and specifications).
  • Experience in creating infographics and scientific visualization.
  • Experience in using time and project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Institutional knowledge of ASU is a plus.
  • Familiarity with UI/UX and conducting user research (including interviews, surveys, and other user testing tools) is a plus.

Working Environment

  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer
  • Bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to interview, video and/or record individuals in conjunction with project work.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties.
  • Regular review of completed tasks.
