An undergraduate program manager position, at the rank of Associate Professional Specialist, is available at the Lewis-Sigler Institute at Princeton University for the Integrated Science Curriculum (ISC) and the Quantitative and Computational Biology (QCB) Undergraduate Certificate Program. This position will be comprised of a significant teaching component and a course administration component. In addition to directly teaching in the ISC freshman course and our graduate Responsible Conduct in Research (RCR) course, the position will coordinate the freshman ISC course along with other classes in the QCB Undergraduate Certificate Program. The ISC Program Manager will be the first point of contact for undergrads interested in undergraduate certificate and will be responsible for course and summer research program administration. The position requires significant teaching experience and an interdisciplinary background. Successful candidates must be self-motivated, independent, and committed to teaching. The position will report to the director of the QCB Certificate Program and Professor Joshua Shaevitz. Subject to sufficient enrollments and approval by the Dean of the Faculty, the Associate Professional Specialist will carry a secondary rank of Lecturer to participate in two courses: 1. The freshman ISC class, a year-long course that provides students with advanced preparation for a major in any of the core scientific disciplines. In their secondary role as Lecturer, the ISC Program Manager will be responsible for teaching precepts, totaling up to a potential of six contact hours per week. 2. The RCR course for QCB graduate students, a half-term course offered once a year that covers topics required by the federal funding agency to train graduate students in responsible and ethical research. There is an opportunity for additional content development, in particular in the areas of diversity and inclusion and financial management of research grants. The position may be involved in additional aspects of teaching the ISC, or other courses, depending on the Institute's needs and pending the approval of the Dean of the Faculty. This is a one-year term position with the opportunity to renew pending performance and funding. Responsibilities include: - Collaborate with faculty to develop/refine the ISC/QCB curriculum and the RCR course. - Serve as the instructor of the RCR course. - Provide the lectures for the freshman ISC precepts. - Coordinate the logistics of undergraduate courses. - Coordinate the QCB undergraduate certificate program (review applications, track students through the program and beyond, etc). - Administer the course materials, enter course information, assist with grading, and enter grades for undergraduate courses and the graduate RCR course, organize ISC tutors for the academic year, and other undergraduate administrative tasks as needed. - Coordinate the participation of ISC/QCB students in the summer undergraduate research program and help administer the program with Molecular Biology. - Work with the LSI admin staff on the QCB Certificate Class Day event. Essential requirements include: - Masters or PhD in biochemistry, physics, chemistry, biology, or related field. - Prior university-level teaching experience. - Excellent computing/coding skills. - Previous college level coursework in chemistry, biology, physics and calculus. - Communication skills for interacting with students. - Ability to foster a conducive learning environment. - Excellent organizational and time management skills. Non-essential (preferred) functions: - Research (computational/theoretical/wet lab) experience in chemistry, physics, microbiology, or related field. - Experience with Canvas.
