Position Information
The School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks to hire an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) coordinator with a dual appointment in the Department of Agriculture Food and Resource Sciences and UMES Extension. The position is a full-time, exempt level position with benefits. 
 
University Information: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is the 1890- Land-grant university in Maryland, located in a rural setting on the Delmarva Peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. Major metropolitan areas from Washington D.C., Philadelphia, PA to New York City are within reach.
Responsibilities
Specific duties of the Integrated Pest Management Coordinator will include: 
  • Help develop and provide practical, scientifically proven, economically, and environmentally responsible solutions for pest management problems for farmers and other clients who reside on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. 
  • Assist and support existing, new, and expanding crop production systems in the Eastern Shore of Maryland
  • Help to educate the stakeholders about effective pest management solutions and pesticide applicator licensing. 
  • Design and execute field trials, demonstration trials, and other training events. 
  • Collect data that includes but is not limited to scouting and monitoring pests and diseases in various crops such as cucurbits, strawberries, grape, hemp, soybeans, corn, vegetables and others.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in entomology, weed science, phytopathology, or other related fields. 
  • Two years of relevant extension program experiences in pest management. 
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid driver’s license at the time of hire. 
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a Maryland pesticide applicators license within six months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree in entomology, weed science, phytopathology, or other related disciplines. 
  • Demonstrated skills in developing educational content and resources across platforms. 
  • Demonstrated experience organizing and delivering outreach to small farmers, commercial producers, and industry stakeholders through workshops, talks, and/or training. 
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse people, researchers, extensions, staff, and students. 
  • Evidence of ability to develop an effective extension outreach program.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Relevant knowledge in agriculture and experience working with small and commercial producers. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with stakeholders. 
  • Skills in designing and executing field experiments that include planting, applying treatments, data collecting, and drafting reports.
