Position Description:

University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks an integrated Primary Care Psychologist who specializes in adolescence and emerging/young adulthood (AYAs). Appointment rank is open and may be to either the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track consistent with clinical experience and research interest. Appointment rank to Instructor of Pediatrics (non-tenure or clinical track) may also be considered. The individual selected will join the Divisions of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and Pediatric Psychology to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services as a primary care psychologist specializing in treating AYAs.

The UI Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical staff of UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Iowa’s only nationally ranked children’s hospital and home to the state’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital trains 50 pediatric resident physicians. For its 2023-24 edition of “Best Children’s Hospitals,” U.S. News & World Report ranked UI Stead Family Children's Hospital in six pediatric specialties: neonatology, diabetes and endocrinology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and urology.

Education Requirement:

  • Must hold a PhD or PsyD degree in Psychology from an APA accredited doctoral program

Required Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of an APA accredited internship and postdoctoral residency

  • License or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa

  • Health Service Provider or eligible for Health Service Provider in the State of Iowa

  • Experience treating children, adolescents and young adults, and their families in a busy primary care setting

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in integrated primary care clinics

  • Demonstrated experience in addressing psychosocial and physical health issues specific to AYAs, including eating disorders and depressive- and anxiety-related disorders

  • Experience in primary care behavioral health interventions, health promotion and social determinants of health.

  • Experience using evidence-based and brief, solution-focused interventions tailored to the presenting problems, psychosocial environment, and cultural context.

  • Demonstrated excellence in research and clinical care

  • Clinical teaching of students across a variety of disciplines

  • Evidence of scholarly activity

  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams

  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated experience promoting an inclusive culture in the workforce and academic environment.
