Primary Purpose:  Under the supervision of the Manager of Patient Assessment and Intake, the Intake Coordinator is responsible for facilitating and coordinating the referral process to  ensure timely and appropriate review and dissemination of information, in addition to initiating pre-authorizations with payers.




Qualifications

 

Knowledge and Skills
 
Education:   Associates degree in business, nursing or other related field required,  bachelor's degree preferred                    
 
Years Experience
:  Two years hospital experience in utilization management, quality management, or case management . Project management  , healthcare insurance experience or data analysis in a health care setting preferred.
 
Required Skills and Knowledge:               
 
Knowledge of utilization management principles and procedures, including having worked with third party payers for admission reviews that meet intensity and severity of illness
Strong organizational skills required to manage multiple, complex activities with tight deadlines, establish priorities and manage time effectively
Effective written and verbal communication skills required for establishing and maintaining relationships
Ability to interpret medical data as documented
Effective conflict resolution and negotiation skills
Knowledge and training in multiple computer systems required to perform position responsibilities (i.e. MIDAS, LastWord, Microsoft Office, etc.)
Demonstrates initiative and responsibility.
Knowledge of hospital regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Strong presentation, written and oral communication skills, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as time/project management skills.
Ability to work with a variety of disciplines and levels of staff across departments and the health system is required.
Maintains excellent customer service.
