Primary Purpose:
Decontaminates all instruments and medical devices used in surgery and other departments, utilizing aseptic technique according to the procedures of central sterile processing. Loads and unloads instrument trays to washer-sterilizer, ultra-sonic cleaners, rinser-dryers, cart washers, EO sterilizers, steam sterilizers, and Endo-scope washer. Reassembles and inspects trays and instruments for sterilization and delivers processed goods to user departments. Performs biological spore tests of all sterilizers, recording tests results in proper manual. Knowledge of procedure when sterilizer fails spore test. Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and organized condition to maintain required standards for handling sterilized and clean materials and to maintain a safe work environment. Assists in orientation of new department employees to each work assignment area and total department operation.

Qualifications

 

Knowledge and Skills

Education: High school graduate or GED.
Experience: Six to twelve months' experience.

Knowledgey and Skills:  Knowledgeable of central service practices and skilled in sterilization functions.
