Job Summary
 
The position (faculty member) requires individuals to have a desire to teach students to become entry-level nurses who possess a bachelor’s degree in nursing. The faculty member’s role includes an understanding of the inner functions of a nursing program as they relate to curricula, practice arenas, evaluations, and outcomes. Faculty members facilitate students’ achievement of course objectives and prepare students to master skill sets that enable progression throughout the nursing program of study. Faculty members work closely with the course, clinical, and program coordinators to ensure the standards and quality of the nursing curricula are met and maintained. 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Develop and teach courses assigned.
  • Adhere to class and clinical schedules.
  • Develop and maintain syllabi, lesson plans, calendars, etc. for each course taught.
  • Communicate any concerns or issues to the course, clinical, and/or program coordinator including school director.
  • Follow policies and procedures of the clinical site, the University, the College of Nursing and Health Professions, and the School of Professional Nursing Practice.
  • Submit course specific documentation as scheduled.
  • Communicate course, clinical, and/or program requirements to students.
  • Maintain office hours to assure availability to students for support including advisement, exam review, required remediation, and summative evaluations.
  • Collaborate with the course, clinical, and program coordinators to plan, implement, and evaluate each assigned course to maintain quality and effectiveness.
  • Direct and/or indirect clinical supervision of students enrolled in the nursing program of study.
  • Attend scheduled meetings as related to course, clinical, program, school, college, and/or university.
  • Participate in service opportunities on and off campus that impact the university, profession, and/or local communities.
  • Participate in the shared governance of the university, college, and school through assorted opportunities for engagement on and off campus.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications
     
    Competent practitioner of nursing with minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience as a registered nurse (RN). Hold a Master of Science in Nursing Degree. Hold an unencumbered Mississippi RN license. Satisfy all clinical requirements of affiliated agencies including a criminal background check clearance.
     
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
     
    • Evidence of ten (10) continuing education units annually.
    • Comply with clinical agency policies and procedures.
    • Complete all required clinical agency training such as orientation, electronic health records (EHR), HIPAA, medication administration, etc.
    • Uphold the mission and values of The University of Southern Mississippi, the College of Nursing and Health Professions, and the School of Professional Nursing Practice.

    Preferred Qualifications  
    One (1) year of formal (nursing) instructional experience in a higher degree program.
